    Thinking about a Bus/RV

Prevost = King of the Mountain!

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

12R22.5s I wouldn't mind going to a 9" wide wheel and run 315/80R22.5s though, they have a little bit higher load rating I think. The Prevost has a max weight of 40,000. I'd need to look up the MCI numbers, but it's pretty close to that. 42,000 maybe, I know it is about 2000 pounds heavier...

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

It never occurred to me to put Super Singles on. I will say that Christian's MCI with Firestones rides more smoothly than my Prevost with Michelins. They both run the same size tires.

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

Congratulations! I think you will be very pleased with your Prevost. I really love mine, I also really love Detroit Diesels! Eventually I will put a 60 series in my coach. Nearly doubling the horsepower is always good. Prevost support is also excellent. I called their service department last...

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

Honestly, where I notice the turn radius the most is backing. The Prevost just takes more room. Still very manageable though.

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

The Prevost doesn't have a great turning radius. The lifting tag axle makes a big difference though. My MCI had a better turning radius even without the lifting tag. When I drove the Alaska Highway last June there were many miles of unpaved road and the Prevost did fine, even towing my...

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

The suspension is pretty much the same as newer coaches, not much has changed with that. I really like the disc brakes on the newer rigs though. Those old drum air brakes are okay but not great. On long grades you must be very cautious to avoid overheating them and running out of air. When they...

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

It started life as the team bus for the Vancouver hockey team. It came from the factory as an executive coach with only 22 seats. The bus is a 1985, it was converted in 2005, I should have clarified that. I would love to have a series 60 Detroit but it's really not worth the cost to convert it.

    6V92, I do miss the power of the V8! It's a 2005.

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

I'm on my third Bus. The first was a 1958 GM 4104, the second was an MCI that now belongs to my youngest son and his wife. The one I currently have is a Prevost. They have all been great. This at Muncho Lake on the Alaska highway last June.

    Similar on the MD-11.

    What do you typically fly?

MD-11F at work. Cessna 180 at home. Once in a while my neighbors 206 or PA-18 on floats.

BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

I had a fellow box hauler pilot postulate that maybe there was a mid air collision. It sounded far fetched, but it does pretty much explain everything. In reality it is far too early to be speculating anyway.

BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

He may well have been, most pilots have been employed by more than one airline before they settle down.

Apparently the Captain and First Officer were also former Mesa pilots. Some of the new hires at my airline knew them.

Texting for clearances is already in use and has been for quite a while. It's called CPDLC, wonderful system.

    Night VFR Poll

The only reason I don't often fly VFR at night is because my home field isn't lighted. I don't mind taking off pre-dawn but landing after dark on an unlit strip is a bit risky.

    VFR only and ownership

I had a commercial for years with no instrument rating, now 35+ years later I fly a heavy jet for a living but my Cessna 180 doesn't even have a VOR receiver.

Can I even be a pilot?

There is no difference in pilot requirements between passengers and cargo.

    The Engine Sound Thread

I've got an RV with a Detroit 8V92TA, it's hard to beat the sound of a big two stroke Detroit diesel.
