Upcoming AD for many more PA-28 and PA-36 wing spars. 100 anomalies and 6 cracked wings found

Let us keep in mind, there are a host of aircraft with airframe limits such as the Tomahawk at 11,000/hrs (has an extension available) Cirrus has a 12,000 airframe limit at which time major inspections and repairs will be required. Trying to sell an airplane with 8K-10K TT already has its...

Dropped off Plane for Skybolt Cowl Fastener Conversion

Thanks. Yea, I have read up on the revisions over the years. Hopefully they have those issues resolved. There are some good comments on the RV forums etc. They are pricey so again, hopefully I get what I paid for.

Dropped off Plane for Skybolt Cowl Fastener Conversion

The instructions make it appear fairly straight forward. What are some of the pitfalls?

Dropped off Plane for Skybolt Cowl Fastener Conversion

I'm finally over my worn out cowling Lord mounts. The firewall rubber mounts are swollen, some are played out so I have an assortment of southco fasteners and sheet metal screws. What a PITA So I broke down and ordered the Skybolt Conversion kit with doublers. For those who have done the same...

"Inspected oil filter, found no metal" - myth or reality?

I realize this thread is 8 months old but thought I would share a video from the folks at Savvy. He gets into some detail about metals in an oil filter. What are acceptable amounts etc. He also reviews a concerning oil analysis from Blackstone. I just finished cutting open my filter after...

    Mooneys..M20

I've been looking at Mooney's lately as well. For reference, I'll add a comment about insurance since it was mentioned a couple times. Asked my insurance folks I've had for 8 years recently to drop me a quote on a 1970' M20C. Pilot- 64/yrs old 970 flight hours with 55 hours in Make and model...

    Considering a RV-6A But.......

I'm wrapped around the axle on whether or not to buy a homebuilt. I know these aircraft are reliable and have an excellent safety record. I'm not certain a risk analysis would conclude the RV6A is more likely to have issues than say a 1967 Piper Cherokee. I need to start at the VANS forum...

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

Thanks. I have the second set-up srewed to the firewall. Makes sense now after your explanation. I plan to lube up the hinge/lever etc when I go back out to the plane.

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

Thanks Dan. I'm behind the curve in understanding the airflow from the exhaust to the heater. When the air reaches the housing on the firewall, and the heater is off, where does the heated air get vented out of the housing? I noticed in heater off condition the scoop door is closed but there is...

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

Nope, or in annual back in Feb. I'll go out on a limb and say its happened sometime between Feb and now because the shop has a good reputation around here.

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

When I bought the plane 16 months ago (120/hrs) it had a fresh overhaul and pretty much everything was new including prop, carb to fresh O/H mags etc. But for some reason they slacked on the exhaust. Going to fix that. She's getting new on both sides. :)

I did the same thing years ago at HNL. The approach toward, and eventually over Pearl Harbor and Ford Island, I was told was the exact route the Japanese had flown. Had a hard time pronouncing the local waypoints along the way lol....

Not under the cowl. But I do have white near the tips of my exhaust that protrude through the cowl.

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

That's a good idea. I'll give it a go with the SCAT off the heater inlet.

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

I'm getting high levels of Carbon Monoxide in my cabin. With all the air vents closed it reached ~200ppm on my digital meter. Opening the vents and leaning out the mixture it dropped to about 25ppm. I returned to the field and need to sort this problem out before flying it again. SCAT tubing...
