[NA] Solar power system cold calls all of a sudden?

One of the joys of being retired is not having to answer calls from anyone I don't know.

GFC-500 is a GPS only Autopilot

@NordicDave - You're right. I misread your post as many have said it reverts to pitch and roll mode only, I read too quickly. Having said that, you can still fly your green needles using those modes. The G5 or G3X will still show the indication. Not that big of a deal to turn the knob to align...

    Tug advice.

Thought a takeoff was required to count as a cycle for a turbine?

GFC-500 is a GPS only Autopilot

Not correct. Heading mode and vertical modes (IAS, VS) work without GPS.

    It's Around Here Somewhere ...

Have a few tools I've acquired that way. If you're too careless to keep track of them, I'm not returning them to you, and not likely to return to you for service.

    Flying to Florida

KGON - KRWI > KRWI SSI KFIN - messy stuff in the NE is NYC TRACON Computer giving 5 reroutes + Presidential TFR in Delaware. Only diversion on the second leg was for an active MOA in SC.

    Flying to Florida

BTW I was referring to the SSI VOR as a waypoint, not as a stop.

    Flying to Florida

I go to KRWI to refuel. Then to KFIN via SSI. That keeps my feet dry. FIN is just north of DAB. The TFR near JAX has never been an issue.

Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated (my airplane is now a go-to image for crash articles)

    Apparently when you aren't dead, you are spewing lead on California;

So, Why Do We Need EAGLE And ASTM, Anyway? (Avweb)

Re-read the 2nd part. They are saying that the other formulations with "100" in them, offer less detonation protection than G100UL. There's a caveat with Swift's 100 that it may require engine modifications to work. e.g. not able to operate at full power in high compression engines.

So, Why Do We Need EAGLE And ASTM, Anyway? (Avweb)

GAMI has already made some comments on that - from their website: "However, CAUTION, while G100UL Avgas can be freely mixed with 100LL and used in any airplane, the same is not true for mixtures of G100UL Avgas (or 100LL) with UL94. Any such mixtures of G100UL Avgas and UL94 must only be used...

So, Why Do We Need EAGLE And ASTM, Anyway? (Avweb)

Every oil major and distributor is going to test aviation fuel. Only question is how, and GAMI will supply a test standard. Swift 94 becomes a useless fuel once 100UL is available and Swift's 100 version does not work in all engines. They are basically screwed, and using their distributor...

    Plexiglass Windscreens - polishing

@Ventucky Red - What is the problem you are trying to solve? Novus is good if you have scratches or hazing, the others are related to just cleaning a dirty windscreen. If have more than cleaning needed, test a small, out of the way area first. Look at that test area in full sun. Doing a bad job...

    Plexiglass Windscreens - polishing

Plexus had a supply chain issue and was out of stock everywhere. It's slowly starting to come back, but hard to find unless a full case or a ridiculous price.

    Winds aloft forecast

2nd vote for Windy.com. There's an altitude slider that lets you see the wind at about 3,000 ft intervals. I use it all the time, works well

    New Cylinder Break In Advice

Do you have a CHT gauge for each cylinder? You basically need to set the rings. That will show up as a drop in CHT. On my one cylinder that got replaced, that happened on my first take off. Was running hot and all of a sudden dropped 50 degrees. I pretty much did nothing special after that. Oil...

    T-Mobile

Why are you considering ditching the fiber? In general T-mobile has less coverage in rural areas than ATT. Difference is getting less over time. Here's a decent comparison article https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/t-mobile-vs-att-wireless-unlimited-plans

Want To Buy PA-28 seat back plastic

SEM Plastic paint is the hot setup to match a color on interior plastic. A good auto paint store can mix a precise match and put in in a spray can. I did that with my PA-28 interior and it looks great and is holding up well. Pretty sure the backs are available new from plane plastics...

Upcoming AD for many more PA-28 and PA-36 wing spars. 100 anomalies and 6 cracked wings found

Wow, just wow. There's a ton of work done by Piper to challenge the need for the AD and to argue that compliance has the potential to cause more damage. It also debunks the machined vs extruded spar as an issue. Very data driven response that seems to have been ignored by the FAA.
