So, Why Do We Need EAGLE And ASTM, Anyway? (Avweb)

Amen! "Two competing unleaded high-octane fuels are now on the market. Isn’t that what everyone wanted?" https://fly.omeclk.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcnFmhrSaq3hDc0Bvqk8m00vbPzHR0r%5Bnna2k Summary: "The events of the past week make me wonder what, if any, place ASTM actually has in all of this. If...

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

As said many times already... "fly often". This makes sense from a pilot enjoyment standpoint, but is even MORE IMPORTANT for the health of the aircraft. Someone (might have been Mike Busch) once said: "If the Hobbs meter is to reflect the aging of the engine, rather than registering the...

VFR flight plans. Do you file them?

Once you File a VFR flight plan in ForeFlight, there's a button right there to Activate that flight plan. At the end of the flight, you can click the Close button to close that flight plan. No need at all to get ahold of FSS.

Mechanic in Annual Inspection Replaced ELT that hadn't expired and charged me for it

My SOP for Annual: -- commit to pay the shop the pre-agreed fixed price for the "inspection" part of the annual ONLY, requiring that the output of the Inspection is a detailed written list of every single "discrepancy" and a cost estimate (parts, labor) to resolve each item -- I then (in my case...

    Flight Aware Tracking Issue

Did ADSB-Exchange do any better? https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a6842b&lat=39.959&lon=-75.676&zoom=10.3&showTrace=2024-10-06&trackLabels It all depends on who has public receivers closest to the action.

    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

Neither left or right seat needed to have their heads in an iPad... while their eyes were scanning outside, audible alerts (bearing, relative altitude, distance) would have been triggered by the ADS-B In to both the intercom (likely a G1000, G500, or G3X) and iPad. I do notice from the track...

    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

Respectfully... seems this indeed was 'caused' by the improper pattern entry... but it could (almost certainly) have been avoided by ADS-B Out in the Swift.

Cirrus down at PVU 9/27 16:00Z

I'd disagree on the "one can 'feel'"... IMHO, the spring-loaded stick of the Cirrus masks much of the "feel" that one gets from a direct (cable or push rod) connection with the control surfaces.

Another unleaded 100LL replacement approved (Swift 100R)

Just to remind everyone... there is at least one progressive piston GA manufacturer... full FADEC is found in the Diamond DA40NG, DA42, DA50, and DA62 models (all with diesel engines burning JetA). Wayne

    Drop-in 100LL Replacement "Impossible"?

Yep. Furthermore, George even has a suggested fix for UND/UL94 (i.e. reduce timing to 20-22 deg). And no one paid GAMI to do this detonation testing of UL94 and Eagle/EBTE!

    Drop-in 100LL Replacement "Impossible"?

I encourage everyone to view the important part in the video that Martin posted -- namely regarding DETONATION -- that begins at 25:37. This compares the detonation possibility of 3 fuels... G100UL, UL94, and the Eagle/EBTE. Pretty conclusive IMHO that only G100UL is "detonation-improbable"...

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

@nauga, I have to admit I don't know which (pressure altitude or GPS altitude) the ADS-B tracking sites (FlightAware, FlightRadar24, ADSBExchange) are using. The track display site FlySto.net in this case got a kml file output from FlightAware, so again I don't know which altitude FlightAware...

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

The data trail is as follows: -- the aircraft broadcasts ADS-B Out which includes GPS location, ground speed, GPS altitude, etc. -- [the aircraft in this case being a recent Cirrus writes to the SD Card a whole bunch more data... e.g. pitch, bank, IAS, altitude MSL, engine data, etc, etc. -- if...

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

@Flying Keys, I took the FlightAware track into FlySto.net and looked at the descent on the final approach course. Here's a link to the interactive FlySto graphics. I got ~5 miles out by scaling up the visible runway length of 5200'. And below a screenshot:
