I wonder if it's a case of not noticing that the autopilot has been adjusting trim to account for a deteriorating condition, e.g. icing, until it hits the trim limit and says "here, you fly now" and hands over a very difficult situation.

Perhaps even worse is the guilt of knowing this pilot just confessed his final intentions to you, thinking he was communicating fully and clearly, and you had to ask for a say again because you didn't catch it.

I appreciate the reco, and it sent me to the library for a copy. I'm selective about what I sit down to read or watch, and there are only a handful of movies, albums, or books that I've given up on before I finished. This came to be one of them. I'm about 1/3 through, and I won't take anymore...
