Grumman electrical failure. Crashes into Cessna on runway.

I know of a young flight student who was returning from a solo practice flight when the alternator warning light came on. The student decided to land in a field rather than continuing on to the airport, even with sufficient battery power to talk to the tower. Treating every electrical problem as...

You know what they say. The two happiest days of a man’s life are the day he becomes a member of the POA MC and the day he resigns.

Piper Navajo N818BR down Victoria TX

You turn on the boost pump, switch tanks, and wait about an hour and a half, nervously hoping it comes back to life. Actual time elapsed is probably about 3 seconds.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Especially diabetics! If your sugar intake is strictly limited, would you rather have a spoon of refined, granulated sugar, or a spoon of raw honey?

    Correct answer: Literally everyone.

    B17 crash at Dallas.

I'll merge them now. It should flow fairly well between the old thread and this one without many interleaved posts. You can always use the Report button on a post to bring it to the moderators' attention. Reports aren't only for Rules of Conduct violations.

    2024 Goals

You all have convinced me to finally set some goals for the year. Otherwise, I'll never fail to achieve them. 1. Log 100 hours. I'm at 93.7 now so that's doable, but December is going to get very busy on me. I'll report back in 3 weeks or so. 2. Schedule a flight review or substitute for it so...

Weather Experts - What’s causing this?

What's your source for this rendering? I like the format much better than the current version of rucsoundings.noaa.gov.

    Foreflight - radio frequency “v”

Clearly not. One thing ForeFlight could do better is getting rid of the V after every VHF radio frequency.

Another twin crash that does not make sense

There is a micro SD slot in the G5, but I don't know if it will record anything to a card if you insert it or if the card slot is only for software updates.

    Foreflight - radio frequency “v”

Given that the difference between UHF and VHF is the frequency, I hope that nobody thought it was necessary to tell people that 123.45 is a VHF frequency. The valid reason to do something like this would be to make it easier and faster to find the frequency he needs based on whether he wants UHF...

How long have you been using an iOS or Android EFB?

Per my response to the poll, I started using ForeFlight between my private pilot solo cross country and check ride, but didn't use it on the check ride. I stopped using paper charts (other than as documented in my Children of the Magenta Highlighter thread) by the time of my instrument rating...

How long have you been using an iOS or Android EFB?

I don't doubt that FltPlan is a great way to file a flight plan. But, for a product named “flight plan,” it does remarkably little to help plan a flight. That's where Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight make their $100-200/year from individual pilots. I'm sure that I could learn an efficient workflow to...

How long have you been using an iOS or Android EFB?

I think it's fair to say that connectivity to the panel is important for a lot of people. Even with glass all over the panel, I will pull out the iPad and look at big weather patterns ahead of me, charts and weather reports for alternate airports in case I need to divert, etc. The iPad is faster...

    Renting in Alaska

They definitely fly in the winter in Alaska and have done so since the end of WWI. Try to find a copy of Polar Pilot by Dorothy G. Page for the history on that. (Warning: It's written like a biopic, complete with "what they might have said" dialogue, but it's still a great read.) Please go there...

    Still thinking about an RV-14

I didn’t have to move my tables often enough to justify wheels. I just dragged them around and re-shimmed the feet. (Remember when you asked why life has to be so hard? My basement floor would have been flatter if Tony Hawk had built it.) I do think I would have benefited from making two pairs...
