How old is too old for a propeller?

Thanks and that is what I thought. We have a club plane and one of the folks helping with maintenance commented that the propeller was old. I don't believe the age matters and I don't know of any material weaknesses, of significance, that have to do with the age of the aluminum. as noted, it is...

How old is too old for a propeller?

Assuming the propeller is maintained and is not warped or otherwise damaged and in theory would pass an inspection, is there some age at which beyond this age it would be unsafe or unwise to use a propeller. Assume also that the propeller has been maintained, but not overhauled more than 1x or...

Compass deviation card required for VFR flight?

That's the funny thing. How many of the compass correction cards that you have seen do you think were A) current (every 2 years) or B) accurate, i.e., updated after installation of some new electronics like that GNS430 that was swapped out for a GTN 650 and C) that corrects for the iPad attached...

Compass deviation card required for VFR flight?

The Aspen EFD is your compass. It replaces the "by TCDS required magnetic direction finder." But because it can fail, it requires a backup compass. It is this that is the crux of the question. As noted above and with the exception of flying across the Atlantic, the compass correction card, is...

Compass deviation card required for VFR flight?

Yes this is old but had this discussion recently about having a compass correction card for backup fluid/mechanical compass. “It is illegal to fly without it.” Humbug! Our plane has an Aspen EFD 1000 Pro (not Max) which is primary. A mechanical, fluid filled compass is required to be there as a...

    Brazil - bem-vindo ao Brasil

Can you explain a bit more? The article in Mountain Flying suggests IFR is much the same as here in the US including the phraseology. There are also lots of VFR only non-tower airports. What is the source of your information? Thanks! Stig

    Brazil - bem-vindo ao Brasil

Since posting this I have found some more interesting information: The good: VFR CAP (Sectional) and WAC charts here: http://www.aisweb.aer.mil.br/index.cfm I've downloaded several for the routes I am contemplating. Both in the CAP and WAC scales. In addition to the small major city...

    Brazil - bem-vindo ao Brasil

On the mountain flying web-site someone posted an article about flying in Brazil. They had been working there for a year or so and then took a trip around the country in a twin. From the description and pictures it looks safe enough. Strips in Amazonas are not on the agenda. :nono:

    Brazil - bem-vindo ao Brasil

I live in CO and we have a lot of "most dangerous" flying around here too. Lot's of little back-country strips although maybe not as many as in Utah and with the altitude and heat in the summer it makes for interesting flying - or observing if you're on the ground.
