    TSA student multiple CFIs

If you registered as an individual training provider and your student selected you as the provider, then you are the only one he can receive training from...unless he submits another training request and selects another provider. This will NOT invalidate the first training provider as I...

Is ATP CTP a cash grab?

OK... allow me to offer a different perspective.... I took the ATP-CTP in 2015. I was a barely 1500hr mostly C172 pilot and airline pilot wannabe and just missed the deadline to take the multi-engine ATP written before the course became mandatory. The closest course I could find was halfway...

Altitude Directives in VFR Flight Following

Perhaps there's a good chance these posts do NOT mean this, but I get frustrated by what I call "bad neighbors" in the aviation community. Pilots who feel doing something to help someone else (being a GOOD neighbor) is for the other guy, not them. I see examples of this almost every time I fly...

Altitude Directives in VFR Flight Following

So why do you use flight following? So your flight might be safer? But you don't want instructions that will keep you clear of busy traffic corridors?

    KPAO PIREP

I've never intentionally gone to PAO from the southeast but have overflown it from E16 many, many times as a trafficwatch pilot back in the day. From E16, I would stay east of San Jose's arrival corridor (and the class C) by overflying Reid-Hillview (RHV). Before arriving at that point, since...

    Advanced Avionics vs. Conventional instruments

I really like what orca64 had to say. I think the OPs question needs to be answered from two perspectives: 1. In a training perspective. When pilots train with only basic stuff, they have to participate more in the flying, navigation, fuel management, etc. Let's call this traditional...

    Change of career

Just a small correction... it was to be before my 63rd birthday. And it was only a suggestion from a friend. While at Skywest, I had the chance to meet their chief pilot who told me their analysis says only 6 months of service would justify the hire... at the time. Assuming that meant AFTER...

    Pivotal altitude. Why it matters...

Of course I have. I know what 8s on pylons is. But it doesn't mean I automatically agree. I'll concede you may have a point... but I don't agree (yet) it's a significant one. Thanks.

    Pivotal altitude. Why it matters...

I'm sorry but you'll have to do a lot better to convince me. I'm not even sure whether I follow any of the logic or know how you and the article are connecting spins to pivotal altitude. If you're saying that a pilot will just pull back and stall the aircraft because the wingtip appears to go...

    POTUS TFR Procedure - VFR

Interesting. The TFR requires an active IFR flight plan but you don't activate it with a release. Alternatively, you can file a vfr flight plan but you don't have one. So, in your case, you have neither requirement fulfilled. Not a convincing method for me.

    POTUS TFR Procedure - VFR

Only recently has the instructions been to have a VFR flight plan on file. In the recent past, it also needed to be active. Going forward, I would still read the instructions and notes to make sure. They may change their mind and require an active VFR flight plan next time. So, I'm curious...

    Commercial Privileges Scenario Question

Thanks. That makes sense. I forgot that detail.

    Commercial Privileges Scenario Question

Can you tell me where it says that? Someone needs/wants private air transportation. A commercial pilot with a plane can provide it. And only for that one person. It is not an operation to make money from whomever. The only person making money as salary is the pilot. How is that part 135? How is...

    Flying to Northern California

Hayward (HWD) has 100LL from the trucks AND G100UL as an option at the self-serve pump. But not suggesting it will make for a practical fuel stop. :)

Then those are good suggestions. Sorry I misunderstood.

    Commercial Privileges Scenario Question

I'm going to say, yes. She can be paid by him to do these flights as a commercial pilot. She will be a commercial pilot and can be compensated for pilot services. These are, NON-REVENUE, private flights and she will be hired to be the pilot for these flights. It is PRIVATE carriage, not common...

    Finally restarted my flying lessons.

Hello. I have been following this thread since the beginning and have become a big fan. I am truly inspired and wish you all the success in the world. But I have thought for quite some time what Gary has expressed. I have known and still know instructors who take their students on flights that...

    Flying to Northern California

^^^ I second this guy. San Carlos (SQL) is right next to San Mateo. Palo Alto (PAO) is a really nice little airport close enough to San Jose. But be prepared with an airport diagram for taxi and become familiar with the phrases, "Terminal side" and "Hanger side". (I always tell people that PAO...

Seeking Clarification: AGI and IGI Certifications on a Single Card?

He becomes a ground instructor. No practical test. The foi has done it's job and is no longer relevant. If he wants to be a CFI, he does not need the foi because he is a ground instructor. So, whether or not the foi expires after 24 months.... probably yes. But no longer relevant if he...

    Electric fuel boost pump

Yes...you are most correct on all counts. I called the CJ number on the pump and they said they are MacFarlane, now. I told the girl all the shop told me and my experience with it and that I bought it new in May 2022. She said she will inquire as to the policy and get back to me. So, I'm keeping...
