    Maule Insurance

Two taildragger Maules were registered in my county this year; both sustain damage when they put a wing in the grass. Might have something to do with the high insurance cost. I went tri-gear Maule with insurance being the deciding the factor and I fly out of my front yard. You might...

    Inside hangar homes

Ours is 50'X60' with 18' walls and a 14'x44' hydraulic door. The back third is a loft for living; there is only two of us. The front wall of the loft area is all windows with an all glass rollup door. Under the loft is a shop area, two-car garage and utility room with a full bath. The front 2/3...

french fries (N/A, for potato's sake)

I always thought french fries was the best thing you can do with a potato and mash potatoes was the worst. But, I still like mash potatoes. I will probably be ordering french fries for lunch.

    Aviation Etiquette

I had a similar experience at ECP in the Maule. I thought the controller was impressed with my climb rate, but now I realize they just wanted me out of the area!

    Gaston’s 2024, who’s in? Sept. 27-29. 3M0 or KBPK.

We won't be able to make it this year. Monica has a conference in DC next week, and she's "allowing" me to fly her there. I'm looking forward to meeting another POA'er while I'm there, and I'll invite him to attend Gaston's next year.

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

I installed my own CGR-30 combo, but it doesn't look that nice. Another advantage of an engine monitor is geeking out on all the data it records. It's easy to download and analyze. Also, you can have the alarm limits changed, such as CHT, by completing a form and having an A&P sign it and email...

    6Y9 2024 Fly in/camp out

We had a great time at 6Y9 last year, but unfortunately we won't be able to make it this year. We'll miss seeing everyone, especially Brad and Diz.

    Life Insurance

I have a term life insurance policy that doesn't have an aviation exclusion. Interestingly, the only exclusion is for suicide, and that's only for the first two years of the policy. Maybe that's the difference?

    Life Insurance

I have my life insurance through USAA and it doesn't have an aviation exclusion. If you're a USAA member, you might want to check and see if this is an option for you.

    Gaston’s 2024, who’s in? Sept. 27-29. 3M0 or KBPK.

Sounds like @Jay Honeck's old wishful thinking. I was thinking the same thing. It also brought to mind the video one of the members of POA made.

Logged my first multi time today

Very nice. The gauges on the engine support always catches my eye. We saw it at DKX while riding our bikes along the river. On approach it wasn't going much faster than we were.

    2024 IAC Contests

I jokingly told my wife I was signing up for the next camp and she said good luck with that in the Maule.

    2024 IAC Contests

"Camp" like a sports camp. There were several pilots there flying three times a day for a week. It was NOTAMed and there were several spotters/coaches on the ramp.

    2024 IAC Contests

Landed at UCY for fuel last month and was greeted with an acrobatic show. I was so distracted on final I ended up going around. I later learned it was an acrobatic camp.
