Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I agree the plan would have worked if the entire thing was flown. I just don't see value in doing two short legs first before the key one. Seemed natural to me to want to get the most important and challenging part over with up front.

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I think I always sent students on XCs where the first leg was over 50. I'm not sure what OP's instructor's thought process was doing two segments and still being less than 50 miles from the OPoD.

Forward vs Aft CG and Cruise Speed/Efficiency

Correct. Changing the CG changes the download on the horizontal stab, thus changing the amount of lift the wing has to produce. Moving the CG aft has the effect of reducing weight and vice versa. Since less lift is needed with aft CG, less induced drag is created, just as Clip said.

    Cleared Bridge 9 Arrival?

Depends on if you're in the U.S. or Canada. In the U.S., you don't descend unless you are asked to "descend via". Cleared X arrival is route only, not altitude.

Forward vs Aft CG and Cruise Speed/Efficiency

Stall speed is a function of a lot of things. But stall speed varies with angle of attack? Does that even make sense?

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

Looks like it doesn't count. How could it? You "landed at 2 different airports for a total of 47nm distance" then you landed at your home airport. At no point did you land more than 50nm from your departure airport.

FAA will lay off all ARTCC meteorologists and use automated forecasting instead

I call that institutionalized complacency. Seems to be a lot of it going around in the past few years

    Atmospheric Stability - Thunderstorms

Not a meteorologist but I'll try. Where did this 5,000 feet come from? Is that just an example? If so, yes, the environmental lapse rate can change at different altitudes. In your example, a stable layer below 5,000 and unstable above 5,000 is possible. In such a scenario, fronts (e.g. a cold...

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

No, I mean commercial applicants no longer having to do the solo flight requirements solo. Yep, you can now qualify with a 4/5 pass rate or a special Part 141 program. It doesn't have to be 2 years anymore. It was part of the currency requirement revision effective Dec. 1.

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

Well for one the FAA needs to stop making things easier. There's no longer a student solo requiring a 100nm leg, there's no longer a complex aircraft requirement for Comm/CFI (everyone is already flying TAAs), there's the whole PDPIC thing, there's now a loophole around requiring 2-year CFIs to...

Balancing Moderation for a Thriving Community

It's not specific to POA. Monolithic social media sites have largely replaced forums. Too bad, because I've been reading reddit r/flying for a few months and it's cringeworthy how much banal crap gets posted every day. Everything from "Should I be an airline pilot?" dozens of times every single...

    coordination on steep turn exit

The amount of rudder you use is always proportional to the amount of aileron you use and thus, the roll rate. The coordination exercise sometimes called "Dutch rolls" uses very high roll rates both to make the point of the maneuver more obvious (high roll rate = more adverse yaw) and to prevent...

Woman Backs Into Propeller, Kansas, fatal, 10/27

I recall a somewhat similar incident of a skydiver being struck. She was well aware to always approach aircraft from the side, never the front. Unfortunately, one day the dropzone brought in a twin. Walking along the wing didn't work that time.

VFR flight plans. Do you file them?

You're an instructor and your personal feelings regarding the usefulness of flight plans shouldn't prevent you from teaching them. It's your job to set a good example and effective teaching requires that you actually have the student perform the actions of filing, activating, and closing a...

    Busted altitude

Most likely the 1600 was the minimum vectoring altitude and/or minimum at the FAF. They alerted you because they don't want you to crash.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll do fine. It's not rocket science, but the fast pacing and tight timeline make it challenging. Study every single day and practice your flows.
