    Electric Airplanes?

I have a 2nd gen Chevy Volt...It always shows power usage and is VERY accurate. At 40 mph it uses around 6kw of power. I don't get the 750 watt per hp number. if that's true then I'm only using 8hp to go 40 mph?

    Electric Airplanes?

Signature is probably already working on a brochure titled "Charges for your Charges" :) Seriously, the Tesla Supercharging stations can do a 75KW pack to 100% in less than an hour. The OP was calculating for 5 hours of flight which is pretty much unattainable with current tech. The 75kw pack...

    Electronic Ignition options

I have a new Surefly Electronic Mag on way. I've been reviewing the installation and it looks pretty straightforward. Given the standard setup on most aircraft it appears the best mag to replace would be the left one for better starting. There are 2 youtube videos (both on Grummans), that...

    lithium-ion batteries

Weight savings is the big positive. Cost and another point of failure (the controller/regulator hardware) are negative IMO. I'm a fan of Lithiums and own an electric car but I'm not yet ready to swap out an AGM for something with the potential to be less relaible.

    Transponders

Another vote for Stratus ESG. You asked price vs dependability and they are reasonably priced and VERY dependable. It was also brought up if he wanted in and out and did he have WAAS GPS. Stratus has 3 options. Panel mount with using customer WAAS GPS, one with built in WAAS and also a remote...

    Ferry pilots

There should be a voting field for "not paid at all". I live on an airpark in SW FL for over 30 years. We had a lot of older pilots who were seasonal and weren't that comfortable or current for longer trips. I would run a few planes back and forth each year as well as sold airplanes from the...

First annual with plane, extremely low compression Lycoming IO-360

Oil filler hiss could be caused by all of the rings lining up (lucky) or a broken/worn ring or worn cylinder. Running it and testing again will tell which. If still low, add a small amount of oil into the plug hole, If broken ring, nothing will change much but if worn rings or cylinder, then...

    Garmin 430w updates?

I like my Avidyne but updates is one area where Garmin owners have a distinct advantage. Avidyne is locked into Jepp and they are much more expensive.

    Garmin 430w updates?

Avidyne just put out a major update on the IFD units. It's available for download onto a thumb drive for free with the understanding that it needs an A&P sign off.

I'd rather have SPOT, because in the dog movies they always find their way home :)...It's funny, the FAA even calls them PEDs

    Electronic Ignition options

Where you see REV IR* 10/19/2018--it says note 4 for the Comanche, note 4 on the bottom shows fixed timing only. The PA28s had it till just a few days ago and now note 4 has been removed.

Determining if MK 12D has Glideslope Capability

Some had a 40 channel internal glideslope receiver and some did not. If you can find the part number just do a google search and you'll probably find it. PN# 03118-0301 does have the internal G/S receiver.

    Electronic Ignition options

In the certified Surefly you can have only one EI and must keep one mag. The PA28s just got approved for advanced timing. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/712b87_36c56e70fd5d417a8353f645bcade52e.pdf
