Propeller Nick on freshly overhauled prop

Tires throw up rocks but generally back. I had a Velocity and it was recommended to fly without wheel pants for the first 10 landings since it helped reduce speed. We have a concrete runway which seems to regurgitate small chunks. For those first couple of weeks I must have repaired that prop...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

A Mooney of any kind is simply more efficient than a Tiger which is what I was responding to and even the fastest Tiger couldn’t pass the slowest Mooney. Given the same engine a fixed pitch prop at altitude at full throttle will burn about 2 gph more than a constant speed. A simple retractable...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

With my friend I'll be kind and explain that his engine as well as airframe were very modified and exceeded standard power and RPM. It's easy to do, my last plane was an Rv6 with a 180 lycoming and at altitude I would burn better than 11 gph (I'd get 174 kts though)..My 62 C model Mooney had...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

Not true--the Tiger would, by far, be the least efficient. I have a friend who owned the fastest Tiger (he won the Grumman gang races year after year as well as racing it at Oshkosh and SunNFun and performing well). I spent the night at his house in Indiana and we both left together next morning...

    For Sale Dynon D2

Dynon D2 in original packaging with all accessories. I was awaiting a GRT EFIS and thought it would be a few months before they were available so I purchased the D2 last month as an interim backup AI. Prior owner had purchased new and never used it. I've used it for the past few weeks and it...

What I like about the Avidyne IFDs

The keyboards only good if it's more convenient to use. You have to find a good spot for the keyboard to be useful. It's great to have in bumps. It's also cool that it can be used with the IFD100 app and will change both the IFD panel unit and the data on the app.

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

From your choices, I'd pick the M20E...I've got a few thousand hours in Mooneys and a couple of hundred in Tigers including a few long distance ferry flights. The Tiger will be the cheapest to maintain and insure as well as the easiest to fly. Mooneys are a rock solid plane that's excellent in...

    KT76A replacement options

Looks like you answered your own question. There's a glut of old transponders left over from ADSB upgrades, getting a 76A should be easy and, by far, the cheapest solution. If you're going to sell the plane in the near term, you'd be lucky to get half of what you'd spend on a transponder upgrade.

Piper Cherokee fuel smell in cabin

A common issue in PA28s is the vent lines that Piper had used. They were along the lines of windshield washer hose and quite flimsy. http://digital.publicationprinters.com/publication/?i=56240&p=18&pp=1&view=issueViewer

    How Loud Are Twins?

I've flown a push/pull Cessna and it didn't seem noisier than a single although it is a different sound. I've flown several other twins and they seem a bit quieter than singles. Also flew DC3s with windows open (spraying), they were noisy.

Oregon Aero Zulu Headset Upgrade Kit

Has anyone ever tried these? Looks like they'd be more comfortable and much more durable than the OEMs which LS says should be replaced every 18 months. Looks to be bulkier and I wonder how it would affect the in ear Mics for ANR functionality...

    GRT Mini GA

Thx...the Mini GA is a portable unit and can be clipped in and cig plug power just like Dynon portable, the PS-ACE-23-01-R1 only comes into account if you want to hard wire and get a signature as a minor change. The Dynon D3 does get good reviews from most users and would serve as an emergency...

    GRT Mini GA

I've got an Aspen E5 and wanted a secondary Attitude Indicator. Been waiting on the AV30 but estimated cert date keeps getting backed way off. Finally decided this past weekend to move several items around in panel to see if I could even free up a 3 1/8th hole which I did. Started looking at...

Annuals ... More Harm Than Good?

The main driver for good maintenance and a safe airplane is the aircraft owner. Aviation is not an endeavor for the overly frugal yet there are those who will circumvent rules and opt for a paper annual. Conversely, the majority of a/c owners are conscientious folks and they inspect and repair...
