If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

If there’s any new information, I’m all ears.

    Life-Changing Bands (or Songs)

Villa Nauga, dark, strung with party lights, serving up cold mai tais, and cranking those tunes seems like a great place to hang.

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I’m off to judge another contest this weekend. It’s a first time contest and I don’t recognize any of the teams. I know they have a lot of “backyard” teams. I’m hoping it’s all good. The backyard version only cooks chicken and ribs. That gives new teams a chance to try a competition without...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

That picture is even more cool than the one of just him. Those look like two people I’d like to hang out with. Have some beers, shoot some guns, talk about flying, …

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

The history of “west” in the US is pretty fascinating. Daniel Boone pushed beyond the boundaries of the original Colonies. The Corps of Discovery pushed from St Louis to the west coast. Eventually railroads opened it all up.

If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

Reminded me of this story about 7 years ago: Pilot flies into town for a meeting, attempts to land on a road, crashes, walks into town so he doesn't miss the meeting. Someone driving by sees a crashed airplane and calls it in. Cops show up and can't find the pilot. Eventually he comes back...

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

I'll stick with the FAA chart supplement. For an FAA thing it actually makes some sense.

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

As far as I've always been concerned, it's always been "midwest". I didn't realize there's an official definition. But to your other point, Dodge City is in western KS, so it's probably OK to consider it "west".

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

A lifetime ago this Kansas boy was visiting relatives in Indiana and Ohio and got a confused look on his face when they mentioned living in the mid-west. To me, anything east of the Mississippi is "east".

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

One of my favorite scenes in the movie “Winter’s Bone”: the big sister is showing her younger brother and sister how to hunt and clean squirrels so they could eat. They shoot one and she skins and guts it. Her little brother looks at what she’s pulling out and asks, “Do we eat those parts?”...

I’m still kicking myself for not discovering tri-tip sooner. It just isn’t a thing out here.

The pork butt is working, the lunch brats are almost ready, and the two slabs of back ribs will be going on in about an hour and a half. The two top rounds are already finished, rested, and just went into the fridge. One is for a neighbor. 130F for a solid med-rare, they make outstanding...

Glider Crash, Southwest Ohio, One Dead, 8/30/24

The only unplanned tow release I was involved in was when I was flying the towplane and CFI and student were behind me. We might not even have been above 100’ when the CFI released and landed either on the remaining rwy or an intersecting rwy (I can’t remember). He said the glider started an...

    lahso student question

I’ve seen the TSA lines before. One of those airports that gets two regional flights a day has that. The TSA guys really get mad if you cross that line. Someone said they like to step across a corner without actually stepping inside, but I don’t think that’s a good idea.

    lahso student question

I did all my training from a towered airport, so I got used to it right away. And since the plane I flew was used almost exclusively for training, tower already knew there was a student pilot. Most of my flights took me to untowered airports. So I might have only used it a handful of times.
