Logging time in another ICAO country, with safety pilot

Thank you everyone for the answers. It looks like I'm ok from the US side, now I just need to see if the flight school here is up for it. Yep, you understood correctly. I'm just trying to build hours for a longer-term goal in the US of getting a type rating which requires 1000 hours...

Logging time in another ICAO country, with safety pilot

Hi everyone, I'll be in Argentina (an ICAO country) for another 6 months. I have a PPL from the US. While I'm here in Argentina, I'd like to build some PIC hours (it's for a type rating I'd like to get in a few years, which requires 1000 hours total time). Getting a PPL here is a big...

    Fastmail Reviews, Please

I've used Fastmail as a secondary address since before Gmail existed (i.e. before 2004). It's pretty solid. I don't think I've used their IMAP though, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't solid as well.

New Aviation Market! Need help with a name!

How will you solve the chicken and egg problem? Buyers want ads, but there aren't any. Sellers want buyers (website traffic), but there aren't any. Classic problem with marketplace sites (job sites, dating sites, etc). Will you be an aggregator (Indeed.com for airplane for-sale ads)...

    Xavion

If it's not patented, we can just wait until Foreflight implements it on their own. They're a smart bunch.

One Extra Day in Austin, TX

I'd love to attend an Austin meetup Tuesday night. I've been in Austin since 1980 but living in Argentina for the last year, and I'll be back visiting tomorrow. I'm willing to help arrange it if necessary... just tell me what general part of town. Also I'm flying an L-39 jet Monday...

Anyone going to the Classic Jet Aircraft Assoc conference?

The CJAA conference is coming up soon in New Orleans - anyone from here going? I don't own one yet, but I'd like to own an L-39 one day, so I'm going to the conference to start learning more.

    Aviation goals for 2020

To have my instrument rating, helicopter license, commercial license, and to be type rated to fly an L-39 jet (which requires 1000 hours total time, 500 of which is PIC). I hope to have this done long before 2020.

Any disadvantage to letting my medical lapse while out of country?

Hi everyone, My medical certificate is good through the end of March, but I'll be living outside of the US through the end of 2015. I'll be visiting the US in March, so I'll have a chance to renew my medical. Or (I think) I can just let it expire, and renew it when I move back. Is...

NOTAMs via email or push notifications?

You're right. Think about it - we can open up Facebook and in 5 seconds, see updates from what our friends are doing. But we can't get a "newsfeed" style interface to notams. This would be a great app. "Mark as read", done.

    Pres. TFR finally got me.

Interesting blog post by Philip Greenspun (a pilot) about the TFR and how it affects the locals: http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/philg/2014/08/09/obama-and-new-england-aviation-businesses-start-their-vacation/ The last sentence is great: A Dutch friend asked if this pomp and circumstance was...

    FAA verified logbooks

I actually have the same question. I'm currently living in Argentina, and I want to get my FAA private pilot license validated here so I can fly. They require both my FAA license and my flight log book to be "validated" and also apostilled (like a notary, but more difficult, and for documents...

Anyone flown in Buenos Aires, Argentina?

Hi everyone, Last year I got my PPL and then I moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I'll be for a few years. Has anyone done general aviation or flight lessons here? I'd love to be able to keep flying while I'm here. I went to one flight school (at Morón, just outside the city of...
