    Where's the voltage regulator on a PA-32?

Anyone know where this is/how to get to it? The parts and maintenance manuals are crap. In the parts manual, its shown on a picture indistinctly inlaid on the front of the plane, without a clear reference what compartment its in or how to get to it. Unclear if it's forward or aft of the firewall...

I fixed my turbo issues! Piper Saratoga PA 32 TIO 540 S1AD

I'm writing a log of my turbo repair here in case it might help some other poor newb. I'm posting a list of references at the bottom. I have a Piper Saratoga PA-32, with a Lycoming TIO-540-S1AD. It has a very simple turbo setup, with a direct cable interlink between the wastegate and throttle...

    My notes on oxygen use

I'm writing a few notes on my oxygen setup, as well as my measured usage to determine tank size, length of flight, etc. This is stuff I couldn't find with google before getting some gear, so hopefully it's useful to some newb like me. I recently picked up a few items to start flying with...

Wastegate adjustment questions, Piper Saratoga PA 32 with TIO 540 S1AD

I have a Piper Saratoga with a TIO 540 S1AD. It has a pretty simple turbo setup. There is a linkage cable from the throttle butterfly to the wastegate butterfly, so they are directly interlinked. There's no density controller or anything. In the Piper maintenance manual, it has the below method...

Anyone have good East coast destinations for ski snowboarding?

Yeah I was in Syracuse and people would do trips to Gore. I never went though because of the distance and Lab had a good deal for lessons. Right now I do a 3.5 hr drive to go skiing at the closest slope on weekends so yeah, thats close!

Anyone have good East coast destinations for ski snowboarding?

Omni the slopes look disappointing. Mount Snow looks pretty great. Have you been there? How was it?

Anyone have good East coast destinations for ski snowboarding?

Bryce looks amazing for convenience. There's also a field with rnav approaches close by in case weather goes sideways. How is the skiing? What airfield is near sugar? I ski there but I couldn't find any airport close by except a really sketchy Private strip.

Anyone have good East coast destinations for ski snowboarding?

Here's a few more I was able to find out of an old post I missed on my first search: WV WV62, Windwood flyin Resort, which is in the Caanan Valley near Show Shoe and Timberline and Caanan Valley Resort. Note: the runway is only plowed if there is an overnight guest flying in. Elkins, WV...

GPS upgrade advice for future glass panel

G500 looks nice. If I could get integrated engine monitor with it that would fit the bill. But an avidyne gps would not be the thing to get if I went that direction. I was thinking Dynon or Avidyne glass would be as good as the garmin glass at a better price point though. as far as interfacing...

GPS upgrade advice for future glass panel

Yeah that was my thought. I forgot to mention, the 430 has a GDL 88 that does my ADS B in and out and gives weather and traffic on the 430. I haven’t been able to find if the Avidyne 440 will integrate with that or if Im buying a new ADSB adapter/transponder. My current transponder is the...

GPS upgrade advice for future glass panel

Hi! I have a 28V only GNS 430W in my 14V piper! No 14/28v convertor installed. It works but COM transmit power is reduced and makes me hard to hear. Thinking of options to remedy this. I have a typical 80’s steam gauge plane that has been upgraded with that GPS, a Garmin GPSmap as a secondary...

    Astrotech chronometer repair LC-2P

Putting this up for posterity. I have an Astrotech LC2P which wasn't working. The display would be a bit random and frozen, but the unit seemed to work if I just pressed gently on the front of the case. Seems like an obvious intermittent connection. I'm also aware that the buttons on this unit...

New pilot. Tried running LOP for the first time. Experts, critique!

I got additional data to try and calculate a GAMI spread. My engine monitor is an Insight G1, so unfortunately, no data recording. I set the autopilot, reduced power to 65% power cruise, set the engine generously rich, then leaned and snapped a pic of the monitor every 0.5 GPH steps. I plotted...

New pilot. Tried running LOP for the first time. Experts, critique!

Hi! I'm still very new, 75 hr pilot. 20 hrs in my plane, a PA-32-301T Saratoga Turbo. I'm starting IFR training with my CFII, while in cruise, I'm working on running LOP. I have read a ton of Mike Busch's stuff, and watched all the videos I could find. My CFII doesn't know anything about...

Garmin database advice? Garmin vs Jeppesen? 430W and 496

Just got my first plane. Just starting IFR training. I have a GNS 430W and a linked GPSMAP 496. I have a Jeppesen Skybound G2 adapter already. I know for IFR flight, GPS database needs to be current, right? Does that mean Nav, Obstacles, and Terrain, or just Nav? For the 430W, I found I can get...

    Pulse oximeter

Our Dr. office has this one, I found the same model on Amazon and grabbed it: Contec https://www.amazon.com/CONTEC-Oximeter-Fingertip-Saturation-Batteries/dp/B08CN6ZT1K I tested it at 11K ft. My CFI and I sat ranged from 98 to 86%. It responded appropriately to various maneuvers such as breath...

Advice for speed/flap targets for landing a Saratoga?

I wanted to update after I went out again today and tried out the new pattern. Full fuel, 2 people on board, about 3300 lbs. I flew downwind at 100 kts, then when abeam dropped to 14-15 manifold pressure, flaps 10, and pitch 90. Base, tried flaps 10 and flaps 25, and 80-90 kts. We like flaps 10...
