EAB - Variation in maintenance difficulty by manufacturer

In addition to the design, the support group behind a plane is important as well. They will provide tips and tricks that you might find helpful. Vans Air Force seems to be an enthusiast group.

    RFI from LED Lights

Tangent - My external garage door key pad stopped working. Would open the door and then not work, or would close the door after a while but would stop again. Did a lot of trouble shooting for a couple of days, and the culprit? The LED lightbulbs in the opener were old and caused enough RF...

What to do after a PPL?

If you do, please don't video yourself jumping out of a disabled airplane, doing inspection passes, or trying to swap planes in mid air........

Got it. My wife is a special ed teacher specializing in Autism for middle school. Lots of hugs, as well as bathroom support and whatnot. I’d say both you and I married up……

"He was such a good pilot..."

Sometimes things happen that just can’t be recovered from. A possible explanation could be that at the time of the engine failure it was physically impossible to make the turn without stalling. And / or it was also physically impossible to land without turning and be able to survive...

    Fly-In Community Grass Strip

That extension looks to be the same width as the other taxi ways. Seems odd - maybe it's for maintenance vehicles? Those "smudges" at the end of the extension could be sheds?? Or maybe just a displaced threshold / runway run off. If so, seems odd that it is narrower than the runway.

What to do after a PPL?

Ed is spot on. You'll need 50 hours X Country to qualify for instrument anyway. College will be there for you soon enough. Have fun, go fly. Additional Thoughts: 1) Although you have your ticket now, not a bad idea to go up once a month with your CFI to continue to polish / solidify...

"He was such a good pilot..."

FWIW - because of this thread, I read the article last night. It came up in my Flight Review about 12 hours later this morning, as it was also top of mind for the CFI. Prompted some good discussion and thinking - added to the Review. Just another example of how and why I find this board...

    Starship successfully launches.....

The entire shuttle program is a great lesson for management MBA classes. It was for mine. Mission Creep. The process became the priority over the objective. Key focus was really supposed to be a large space station. Shuttle was just supposed to be a way to get there. Then...

    Starship successfully launches.....

Yep - had problems. The second stage lost 2 engines. One engine started to have problems, and computer commands a shutdown. But they had installed the control cables wrong - and the shutdown command went to another engine - which was working perfectly. The failing engine eventually...

    Starship successfully launches.....

Yep - not club med, but the losses we’ve had so far (US and Russia) have all been during launch and re entry.

    Starship successfully launches.....

None, given the way it was designed. Which was the problem. It was a marvel of engineering - but not a great design. It was not cost effective, had inherent dangers in the design , etc. which is why they went back to blunt capsules and parachutes.

    Starship successfully launches.....

Lift off and re entry are the dangerous times of space flight. Hence the escape tower and preference for the simpler blunt heat shield and parachutes vs shuttle type landing.
