Making a full-size poster of my instrument panel for wall art

My family took one in secret while we where flying the kids back to college. Took it from the back seat and enlarged it as others have said. It is my one of my favorite gifts ever and hangs in a prominent place. Glad that when they took it I had tailwinds and was on altitude so the instruments...

    Sunglass Lens Color -- Which?

Serengeti brown/Amber is my favorite. I did try yellow shooter glasses for a while. Kind of fun on top with those - they really let you see bright cloud detail without tiring your eyes.

    Ooooohhhh Shiny Shiny!!!

I think it looks great. Now enjoy messing up the leading edges with bugs as you fly the heck out of it.

    beacon lamp causing interference

Both my top beacon and my belly strobe would whine over the headsets unless I used the audio panel's pilot isolate button. It was especially bad when I tried to patch cord in music that was being powered by the cigarette lighter until I put a filter on the audio cord. When I went to an LED top...

    Ditching the huge beacon

My plane is in the before 1971 group. I was able to get rid of the top and bottom beacons with Whelen Orion 650 and 500 LED lights/beacons. Coupled with LED landing lights I now fly with everything on. Before LED's I had to turn my landing lights off to lower the gear so the breaker wouldn't...

Made it back with the new plane!

Quite a few years ago a venture was built in the hanger next to mine. The design and quality of the components was very impressive. The owner over committed and had a business go south so he had to sell it very shortly after completion. Why I mention it, some potential buyers all flew it over a...

    Huge TFR

It was on ff for a short while, although it was in yellow since the activation time hadn't happened yet. Doesn't show now.

Remote Airport: where would you get your winds prior to landing?

Closest airport usually works, but you mentioned it's 40 miles away. Windsocks and/or wind arrows over the field give direction. Any nearby powerplants will have steam plumes. You get so you can tell not only direction, but a little of wind speed by looking at the steam. Lakes (okay, near Las...

Does anybody else look up N#s when watching TV?

I google n numbers from tv sometimes. It's fun when it's an older show - there is a Columbo I just ran across from the 70's(?) where Johnny Cash is flying and then crashing a 172. Despite Hollywood's crash, it's still alive and flying today. Surprisingly, the Columbo episode was fairly accurate...

    Minor hail dent repair

I'm currently in for repair and paint after hail damage. Many planes on my field were hit by a storm. After deductible, the insurance company is picking up 100% of the mechanical repairs and about 1/2 the paint job. Their reasoning to me was it's didn't hail on the bottom of the plane. You must...

Getting "punished" for daring to file direct?

My home field Is under the philly class b. They will never give you direct, so just file a nearby vor and an airway or two. They will give you a long clearance no matter what. As soon as you get to one airspace west of philly, request and atc will give you direct. North or southbound from philly...

    In for paint

Imron was reformulated at least 3 times since 1978. I'm not saying the issues are fixed or not because I was not in the direct business, but the 1978 comparison might as well be to a different product. (Retired DuPont employee)

    In for paint

Visited today and the plane was under cover for the grey accent stripe. Supposedly the blue is already finished.

    In for paint

I don't know the total amount of paint used. Maybe when I get the bill?? They did strip the gear and wheel wells. I'm amazed at how much work that must have been but have to admit even I don't know how they managed all of it. I did see some of the detail work they had to do in other areas, and...
