Next steps? Shoulder not healing after spactacular fall.

True for as long as there have been medical practitioners. The truth is that specialists almost always have a much better understanding of a particular problem so earlier participation by specialists could improve efficiency and cost if the medical system was properly configured. The problem is...

I think you are making up those ambiguous requirements.

I know a pilot with fairly advanced COPD who was able to get certified after jumping through a few hoops. Dr Bruce can advise.

Do all Ph.D grads have practical experience? Your criteria for a doctorate degree appears to be a moving target requiring an undefined amount of experience and a requirement for contribution (however that is defined) to knowledge. Your stated requirements are somewhat vague and seem to mirror...

    Unreal. Photo realistic portraits

He also painted the official portrait of Arnold Schwarzenegger for the State of California. Why not just shoot a photo? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2751606/Hasta-la-vista-Maria-Arnold-Schwarzenegger-scrubs-estranged-wife-s-face-official-statehouse-oil-painting.html

So a few months later after you completed your thesis you were qualified to teach? More qualified than a newly minted MD? Why?

Yea me too but at this point in my career I am willing to accept lower pay in exchange for the better lifestyle that would result from eliminating work that does not benefit patients.

I've been paid a fortune reading imaging studies that offered no benefit to the patient, so yea. I'm probably not the only person here where that applies. :wink2: The less a provider knows the more tests they tend to order to compensate for a lack of clinical acumen.

This is not a good idea. On the surface it looks like it is the path to less expensive health care. The problem is that the quality of decision making determines overall cost more than the cost of the initial evaluation. Mid levels (NPs and PAs) are best used for data gathering and documentation...

Who determined that all doctorates require an original contribution to knowledge? You are applying academic doctorate standards to medicine. Here are a couple of examples of original contributions to knowledge. Perceptions of Canadian Meeting Professionals of Environmentally Responsible Hotel...

I disagree. Although residency and fellowship are considered graduate medical education, those enrolled in medical school are engaged in medical education not undergraduate medical education. That's why those who graduate from med school are awarded the MD degree which is a doctorate.

The only time I need to be addressed as doctor is when I am introduced to a patient for the first time. I discourage the use of this title outside of selected medical encounters where somebody needs to know they are dealing with a physician.

    CoQ10

I see your point which mirrors the marketing by the manufacturer. I take 2 to 3 OTC fish oil capsules daily. Too cheap to buy the expensive stuff as I don't meet the prescribing criteria. High triglycerides are usually are the result of excess carb intake, metabolic syndrome or diabetes.

    CoQ10

Why not OTC fish oil which is much less expensive? Taking excess fish oil can result in bleeding problems. So much for "zero side effects". Vascepa has a medical indication for use so a physician should not prescribe it simply on request. The most common side effect of VASCEPA is joint pain...

    CoQ10

Here's Mayo Clinic's take on the stuff. There is a mention about possibly about lowering blood pressure. I've heard that it might be useful for preventing the muscle aches that can occur as the result of taking statin type cholesterol lowering drugs. There is some evidence to support the use of...

My Caribbean fantasy has nothing to do with the quality of education, only the weather which is turning sour here in a hurry. One of our Family Medicine residents who recently graduated from this program got her MD degree at one of those schools (Saint Lucia?) and seemed comparable to US grads.
