    Freaked out passenger

This reminds me of my wife,.... on the motorcycle. In the plane, she is great,.. she will read her book through the worst of it never at all concerned. Even when I am sweating bullets in serious bumps and weather she doesn't seem worried at all. I recently purchased a motorcycle and wanted...

Fox News Reports Plane Violated DC No Fly Zone

I look forward to the "I Learned About Flying From That" and the "Never Again" articles. Should be good stuff! ha

    Short Field comfort level

The Bonanza can operate at 1,800 ft no problem. Less probably, but I haven't tried it. -Erik

    Distractions in the cockpit...

I had an angry wasp in the cockpit spotted just after rotation. I was quite concerned, and thought of trying to open a window or do something to make it go away. I wanted to unbelt and get the hell away from it. Then I remided myself of pilots that have crashed planes due to stupid things...

    Retreiving Pax from Vegas

Signature will drop off and pick up at the main terminal. It's free,.. but you will pay for it, in a big, expensive way with fees. After my last trip to LAS (the one where I actually made it) I promised myself I would never to fly into that airport again. Don't even think about asking for...

    Pilots/controllers common cause

I should say that I usually get excellent services... However, my pet peeve is controllers that are rude jerks on the radio. The funny thing is that after you hear a controller "explode" on frequency, thee next thing you hear is the voice of a different controller taking over. I have only...

    Preferred Libations

The beer selection is rather poor. Get a couple "micro-brew" type beers.

    Suggestions for videotaping?

Working in the TV business, I can comment on this. ZOOM OUT! And STAY ZOMED OUT!! That is a huge problem with amateur video. A tripod with a good fluid head may help, but you don't have a chance if you zoom way in. Zoom should be used to set the framing, then not touched. Also...

Anyone never been in a Cessna?

That does seem unusual.. though it looks like your FBO rents mostly pipers? For your hours you have flown an amazing variety of aircraft. I have about 700hrs and have only flown half as many. How did you manage that?

    Collection of handy aviation documents

Funny, I never put the airplane list and car list together like that. With the exception of just a couple, most of those cars are junkers! Cessna Citation - Chevy Citation Who would have ever put that together??

    Safety pilot question

According to AOPA (I called with the same question) you can log it as SIC time. You need a licesnse and current medical, but not the high performance/complex endorsements.

    Fuel surcharge

Sorry for the rant... I agree that surcharges are BS. I don't have a problem with raising rates due to increased costs. I have a problem with false advertising of low costs that aren't all inclusive. If the rates need to go up to cover fuel costs, just raise the rates. They aren't going to...

    HF Antenna on Light Aircraft

You can get an aircraft antenna tuned for 2m VHF. Also, you can use just about anything for HF with the right antenna tuner. An automatic tuner might work well for aircraft use. 2m works well from the air, no problem with multiple repeaters or flying out of range.. It works much better...

Is this a Part 135 Operation?

As the basis for the original question, I should point out that none of the 6 or so outfits I contacted had any problem with this. I would be renting a plane and flying it myself one way and hiring a CFI to fly it back. I think it is rather common. It would be a different story if I were not...

Any LAS area pilots - help!

A HUGE thanks to Michael Driggs who spent his entire day driving us to Tonopah. We were on our way back to Seattle within 15 minutes of getting there. Thanks also to the other offers of help and ideas. I really lucked out with great support from my home mechanic and the local mechanic too...

Any LAS area pilots - help!

Thanks for the info, I tried the flight schools, and either they don't have an aircraft available tomorrow, or they don't have an instructor available tomorrow. Pretty bad luck. I guess it's all part of the adventure of general aviation. -Erik

Any LAS area pilots - help!

I was flying my Bonanza from Seattle to Las Vegas a couple days ago, and made a stop in Tonopah NV, which is in the middle of nowhere and has no services within a couple hundred miles. When I restarted to finish my flight, I found the right mag had failed! Through the help of a couple of great...

    Car Decisions...

I had the exact same thing with the Acura dealer. A huge list of stuff they wanted to do that was minor, but expensive. I avoided almost all of it for another six years. When I finally sold the car it still ran and drove great. You took care of the important stuff, I would ignore the rest...
