    Bed Bugs

I was attacked by bed bugs in a very nice hotel in Boise. I was reasonably nice about it, but they wouldn't even refund my money! Gross!

    IFR Simulators for Home

I spend some time with MS Flight sim or ASA on top before my brush up flights with the instructor. I find the it is very helpful with my scan and partial panel work. I'm much better in the plane the next day. Flight sim X is great for IFR work even on a slightly less than new PC. Just turn...

    Endoscopic sinus surgery

After months of CT scans, I have finally agreed with my ENT that I need to have endoscopic sinus surgery to clear me out. This goes through the nose. Though it should be quick, I am told that I should plan to take a week off of work to recover. Hopefully this will help with my chronic ear...

    Renting in Anchorage

I will be working in Anchorage all of October and would like to rent a plane while I am there to check things out. Since I'm only staying a month I don't want to join a club. I fly a Bonanza and it would be great to rent one, but a 182 or even a 172 would be ok. Any suggestions on where to go?

    Way Too Hot and Heavy

I have a bonanza and a 4000ft runway would not be a problem at all, even at full gross on a very hot day. Either he was way, way over gross (hard to do in a Bonanza) or there was something very wrong mechanically. The POH makes no mention of using flaps for take-off. Also, gear is not...

Funniest thing you've heard on the radio?

There is an army air base not too far away that is never used, has no based aircraft, but is class D with a tower. I have been told that the trainees work in that tower. One day I wanted to transition.. me: gray tower Bonanza 5894S 8 miles south request transition northbound at 2000. twr...

    Alaska

I am totally IFR capable in my Bonanza, but not comfortable with any serious weather up there due to the very high minimums, and the lack of good alternates within fuel range. If the weather is iffy, I will go some other year. I have planned this trip 3 other times over the past 8 years and...

    Alaska

I'm planning my first flight to Alaska from Seattle during the first week in July. I plan to get to Ketchikan and maybe Sitka. I would love information from people that have done this before... - Is simply flying up the inside passage a decent route? - What should I see from the air? - What...

    Garmin 430W and holds

Ah.. good point that the hold is part of the missed, though I have had it issued to me before an approach clearance was issued for spacing, so I thought it would be nice for my GPSS to fly it. There is an easy solution. After I load the approach, I can just go the the flight plan page and...

    ASR approach

The naval air station at Whidbey Island now offers ASR approaches to a nearby civilian airport. I have practiced flying that approach a couple times and it is pretty interesting and fun. However, none of my instrument training books explain how to properly fly an ASR approach. Yes, they guide...

    Garmin 430W and holds

I have a new to me Garmin 430W (WAAS version) that will give course guidence through holds and proceedure turns. Yesterday I was practicing with it and loaded the VOR 16R approach to PAE with PAE as the IAF. When getting close to the PAE VOR I wanted to do a couple turns around the hold as...

    old super 8 to dvd!

Cool film! It's great to have stuff like that. I work in pro film and video and specialize in film transfers. The "expensive" quote is probably from the place I used to work and am now a consultant for. I want to point out a couple things: While transfering to DVD is great for viewing...

    Arinc / Unicom

I always thought Arinc was some sort of data link. How would I go about using it for voice coms? Would I have to pay? I have always thought an OnStar type setup for aviation would be great. So many times in the air I have need a pit stop suggestion for good food, an open FBO, or a good gas...

    Stamford, CT (HPN, BDR)

I am working for the next several months in Stamford, CT. and already miss my Bonanza and flying. I am curious if there are any members in the area that might be looking for an occasional passenger for that coffee or burger. I am more than happy to pay may share, and always happy to return the...

    A36 for rent

I love my Bonanza, it's fun to fly and fast. I actually think the rental requirements are rather low, it's pretty hard to insure one as an owner. Also, $185 an hour seems crazy to me. It costs me $65 an hour wet to fly mine which includes an engine reserve! -Erik
