45 year old, want to start training, concern about medical

That's why the government is bribing medical providers (with fines for noncompliance soon to follow) to switch to electronic medical records. I believe you have already given the government permission to pry into your records when you apply for a FAA medical certificate. EMRs will make it easy.

    Snow

That can be true but AWD/4WD vehicles have a big traction advantage on slippery surfaces. There is a certain amount of torque that will result in wheel slippage. When the force is spread over 4 rather than 2 wheels you can be moving when the 2WD vehicle is just spinning it's wheels.

    What's going around? (stomach bug)

I'm impressed, not bad for an attorney. However, I doubt that Celiac disease would present this was but GI is not my specialty. It might be a good idea to test the stool for C. diff if the kid has been exposed to antibiotics in the last few months. My training many years ago was that (at least...

    Snow

WIVB-TV reports that six people have died in the storm in Erie County. Erie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Scott Patronik told the station that a 46-year-old man died as his car was found in 12 to 15 feet of snow...

The medical system is so corrupt

Not enough time to respond in detail, hopefully later. Do you should also approve of the efforts of rheumatologists?

    Some doctors are morons.

Much depends on the training (physician, nurse, physical therapist, radiology tech, pharmacist, acupuncturist) of the relative and the relationship to the patient. Most of the time it goes well but if I have just spent 20 minutes discussing it to the local crowd it's no fun to start over on the...

The medical system is so corrupt

Why? What is your criteria for deciding that trauma care is preferable to other types of medical practice?

    Some doctors are morons.

A family member with some type of medical background who lives out of state occurs with some regularity. We also have a saying "Beware of a nurse with a briefcase." Either of these situations can make a physician's life miserable.

The medical system is so corrupt

Best interest of the species? I don't know. If I had not been taken to emergency surgery at 2 AM one day in August 2006 I would not be here. Since then I have had many good times, supported my family and improved many other people's quality of life and even saved a few from premature death. I...

The medical system is so corrupt

I don't understand. Of course we spend a lot of money treating disease. That's a fundamental mission of health care. Are you suggesting that we should save money by no longer treating cancer or certain diseases? What if people were willing to spend their own money or buy private insurance and...

And cancer and COPD and just about every other disease. Trauma is the leading killer of those who have not yet reproduced and Darwin is often at play here.

The medical system is so corrupt

Old people tend to have more medical problems but I think you overestimate the impact of obesity. Inefficient application of medical services is by far the biggest problem. They do but there is a bias toward older individuals. The youngest patient I have seen with a heart attack (and not...

If you say so. That's not my experience. Cardiac patients come in all sizes where I practice.

The medical system is so corrupt

I doubt that the surgeon got $17k. That seems very high for a single procedure. Did that include any of the facility charges?

    Some doctors are morons.

Weilke has just scratched the surface on this one. The problem is that there is not one best diagnostic or treatment protocol as patients are complicated individuals. CMS is shoving "guidelines" down our throats under the threat of criminal prosecution. Cookbook medicine has significant...

The medical system is so corrupt

:dunno: What do you mean by this? Somebody has to be responsible for the patient. In the current system that provider can call in as many consultants as they choose. It's not efficient but remember that hospitals are working under many layers of government regulation.

    Some doctors are morons.

I know all of that. What's your solution?
