Decision Path 1 (off SSRI) Experience

I successfully navigated this scenario, but completely unprepared and unaware when I submitted MedExpress. I was deferred, they requested pharmacy records for 3 years, a report from my Psychiatrist, report from AME. I got my 3rd class SI 6 months from initial applications, requiring...

    Is BasicMed doable without Ishihara?

No Ishihara from the doc who performed my Basic Med in NC. Message me for his info if you like.

5000 Pilots suspected of hiding health issues

Part of me would love to see our air transport system lose 5000 experienced pilots in one fell swoop then see the public deal with the cancelled flights and price jumps. Oh wait, is this the rational for single pilot ops??

Deferred medical, past drug related encounters - what to expect

The pop drug test is a good sign. I was waiting for the OKC response to an old alcohol abuse notation in psych notes; fearing a full HIMS smackdowm. Instead I got a letter requiring a ten panel within 48 hrs and a CogScreen AE too. Submitted both and got approved shortly after. They didn't...

    Older pilots and basic med

If in 30ish years I am still around I would be honored to make it into this club!

    Completed CogScreen AE

3rd class deferred for depression & SSRI usage of less than 2 years. SI was issued, renewal every 6 months. My renewal application generated info request based upon noticing old notes of alcohol abuse from therapist sessions years ago during depression treatment. I submitted personal statement...

    Completed CogScreen AE

I did the Cogscreen AE for the first time recently, some parts were really challenging but I felt I did great overall. Now the wait begins. Does anyone have clues or advice about what to expect next?

    the EKG

As an almost 50 year old, seemingly healthy so far, this is what freaks me out about trying for another 3rd class versus going for Basic Med.

    Special Issuance Renewal Process

If you do eventually receive a SI, by that time you will be quite a changed person and very thankful to have that letter in your hand giving you a chance to fly. Gird yourself for a mental battle.

    HIMS Neuropsychologist in Carolinas?

Are there any others certified to administer the CogScreen-AE than Berg or Larson? Starting the process to complete the test within less than 60 days...

Just had AME 1st Class deferred could use advice

Bingo. After my experience, I now see all medical professionals as unofficial agents of the FAA. I will be very careful in how I receive care going forward.

Just had AME 1st Class deferred could use advice

I successfully went through the deferred SSRI process after stopping use of them. It was pretty straightforward but took 6 months before I got a Special Issuance third class in hand. Be aware that all medical records get submitted; anything you said in confidence years ago to a...

    Proper ICD 10 code

Avoid taking medications if possible, keep in mind everything they take note of in sessions may wind up in hands of FAA for review. Be careful when talking about alcohol.

[World Tribune] Report: FAA quietly widened the EKG parameters for America’s pilots

Wow, you are definitely still stuck in 2020. Quite a bit has changed since then.

Doctor unwilling to help with FAA request

I am a year plus into a similar situation. See a Psychiatrist or one you have seen in the past, get all old notes if they exist. Show them what the FAA letter requests, but also bring the FAR with you to show them what the FAA uses as definitions for your particular area of interest. Have...

    Guidance Needed.

I think this can also work the other way. If the FAA has received exactly what they requested but are not ready to issue, they can simply say they never received it and request all or part again to prolong the investigation. But a Federal agency would never do such thing.

    Guidance Needed.

I went through the same thing. Took a break from flying for years. Depression/anxiety 3 years ago, 1.5 years on an SSRI that was not approved because I never checked and wasn't thinking ahead. Got off them, applied for a new 3rd class. Same process started. Had to supply all psych visit...

SI renewal turns into alcohol history inquiry

This is great info. I checked my FAA letter, they state my history of Alcohol Use Disorder is the concern. That term is also used on my Psych's appointment notes, never dependence. The next paragraph of FAA letter is an FYI..."part 67 requires evidence of recovery for applicants with...

SI renewal turns into alcohol history inquiry

I will definitely do the FOIA request for my jacket to see what they have. I am also consulting AOPA legal services to help formulate the best package response to their new request, my best chance to minimize the requirements they might come back at me with.
