Disconnect one end of the tach cable, the engine end is usually easier, Pull the core out and clean it with avgas. Then Lube it very lightly with a thin oil such as LPS 1. Wipe with a cloth and repeat the Lube/wipe a couple times. Reinstall, and it’ll likely solve you problem for years to come.

Sometimes yes, but not always. I’ve had it where the old ones didn’t fit right in the first place. I’ve also had new ones that required trimming to fit properly. Regardless, the A&P will get that part right.

Here’s some quick pics I took this week using the VA-980. Images were transmitted via the iPhone Wi-Fi adapter. Borescope was powered by a pocket supply, which essentially makes it wireless and portable.
