    Hose Shop Recommendation (certified)

Yeah, that’s harsh for any hose. Adjust the fitting to allow more of a horizontal plane as mentioned. And make the hose longer with routing through the baffling towards the right or left as appropriate would be my preference. Could also have a 45 degree fitting made onto the new hose if needed...

    Hose Shop Recommendation (certified)

The bend radius is something I’m concerned with also. It’s pretty common to see Bonanza’s upgraded to all Teflon (PFTE) hoses firewall fwd, which is a job I’m working on now. Three of the engine hoses are referred to as “TCM” hoses. They are Teflon and come with new TCM 520 & 550’s. They are...

    Hose Shop Recommendation (certified)

I think he might have been referring to the fittings in which the hose attaches, such as a union (steel, aluminum, stainless.) The B nuts on Teflon hoses are stainless steel. Don’t know of any restrictions with that application.

    Hose Shop Recommendation (certified)

I’ve used them (A.E.R.O. Hose Shop) for years. It’s the same company, sorta. Apparently Spruce purchased them long ago with some stipulations. I’m told they got to keep the A.E.R.O. name, ability to operate independently, and keep the same people to run the shop. You can purchase through Aero...

    2016 bonanza crash

I wasn’t suggesting cable failure or the AD as a factor in this one. Sounds like the survivor might think otherwise though. His description (#3) seems to mirror some of the nasty findings associated with AD 2019-21-08 and the ABS documentation even though it’s not supported by the accident...

    2016 bonanza crash

Possibly he’s thinking of this.. AD 2019-21-08. ABS has documented some nasty examples of deteriorated cables in one of their monthly magazine articles. Some cables were found barely held together by only the safety wire that wraps around the detached turnbuckle.

    Continental Factory Training Course

According to the program manager It’s a requirement to complete level 1 before advancing to level 2. I think level 1 is more useful anyway but that’ll depend on your situation. Level 1 covers all the common problems, cylinders, accessories, rigging, inspection, etc. I’m told a number of factory...

    Continental Factory Training Course

Good to know that it simplifies things. I wasn’t expecting an LLC to simplify anything. Sooner will be on my mind now.

    Continental Factory Training Course

Thanks for the insight. I’ll definitely try to write it off. Don’t think that’ll be a tax issue even without having an LLC. I’ve done very little side work this year. Still, an LLC at some point is probably best. Could be a good side situation during retirement. Hopefully the TCM class will be...

    Continental Factory Training Course

Has anyone here attended the Continental Aviation Technician Factory Training Course? Level 1 is a 5 day class held in Mobile, AL. Seems to be a pretty good refresher and meets the requirements for IA renewal credit. It’s a bit pricey though. Just wondering how beneficial the class might be for...

New FAA Interpretation on Maintenance & Inspection

Thank you for posting this. On the surface I like it. I don’t want the owner harmed by restrictions but some shops are seriously are abusing the law more than many realize.

Mechanic in Annual Inspection Replaced ELT that hadn't expired and charged me for it

What does the actual logbook entries say for this installation and the last? Talk with the mechanic. There’s probably a reasonable explanation. It’s not likely that a mechanic wants to throw ELTs at customers for no reason. Just doesn’t make sense.

Does anyone have tug bar like this?

Check eBay. I found a DC900 heavy duty 36V 1/2” drill driver for $50. Works well.

Bonanza down at Long Island Airport

It does seem like a lot. I’ve been in the business 37 years. Employed as either an A&P or commercial pilot during that span. If I’m counting correctly I’ve lost 6 friends to GA accidents. 4 crashes, 6 friends. Three of the aircraft were very well kept high performance types. Poor weather + Mx...

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

Yep, there’s a number of us still using the old rubber band trick even on brand new Boeings. Just depends on the configuration ordered. A poor man’s intercom is better than wearing a crooked headset covering only one ear in a loud jet while trying to understand South American ATC.

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

I’m a bit surprised it’s not standard equipment but good points regardless. Besides, with HUD/EFIS/FLIR certification credit most any precision or non-precision CAT I approach can be reduced down to approximately CATII mins anyway. I’m more baffled at how Boeing can even offer aircraft without a...

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

In addition to traditional altimeters, they also have radio altimeters which display a digital readout of height above the ground starting around 2,500 AGL. They also have a landing altitude reference bar that indicates in the form of a vertical tape that changes colors to indicate 1,000 and...

I’m currently flying new Boeing equipment without WAAS. Unable LPV. It’s certified for LNAV/VNAV instead.

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

Yes, VNAV PTH if it’s anything like the 757/767. Guessing the FMA’s went unnoticed when the aircraft deviated from PTH, or they never had path in the first place, which is a normally a requirement by the FAF. Another possibility is using an unauthorized vertical mode to achieve PTH due to an MCP...
