    Anybody getting hired?

That officially sucks. I hope something comes through for you soon. To where have you relocated?

    Anybody getting hired?

I def believe you guys will hire more than us in the next couple of years. From what my other AAL buddies tell me, your big retirement years are just hitting. Our bulge already happened. We are steady at around 500-550 age 65 retirements a year for a while.

    Anybody getting hired?

My weekly update from Delta HQ showed our latest new hire class with 68 smiling faces. Still planning to hire around 500 for the year it says.

Were you awake at midnight on Jan 1st?

It depends on what time zone. I was in Korea so no, not there. But I was awake (and getting ready to go to work) when it struck midnight at home. Meh.... I'll say no.

    2024 Goals

You are working too much! 449 hours at work this CY... but I go to Taipei today and have ICN for New Years so I'll be up near 500 for the year - that's my ceiling! :D

Why aren't chip detectors used in piston GA aircraft?

I'm not sure. We've had several issues with them in the B-24 and have put several on/off MEL for various faults over the years. I'm not a T-28 guy so I just learned recently that they use them.

Why aren't chip detectors used in piston GA aircraft?

T-28’s have a chip light (most at least) and those guys swear by them. We don’t use them on the R-1340 in the T6 but we do on both the B24 and B29

Steve Fossett and my use of SPOT communicators

Good call! I use an inReach and love it for all kinds of off-the-grid adventures. I can't count the times that it's been handy to have even if they weren't emergency situations.

    Delta ATP-CTP Class

Agree, most of the people that tell you how bad airline pilot's have it have never been airline pilots... Larry gave an example of narrow body schedule, if you end up flying wide body I do a max of three commutes per month and work no more than 10 days per month. Typically I have 3x3-day...

    More economical airliners?

Yesterday was the first day in a week that anyone with a brain flew a SE piston. Regardless of what the FZFG reported, it was freezing fog everywhere. You would DEFINITELY have been stuck for at least 6 days. My point is, nothing is 100%. GA or airlines.

How can we "encourage" AOPA to do better?

I don't know the answer to this so I'm truly asking - do other lobbying organizations set yearly goals? When talking about affecting change in something as unbending as the US Government and big money, I would think there's no way to estimate the ability to affect change on a particular...

    More economical airliners?

We have had an inversion here in Idaho for the last 8 days. OVC002 with less than 1/2 mil vis and freezing fog; pretty much straight through for the last 8 days. If you had a GA trip planned, you would have a lot more than a one day delay in 99% of the piston GA fleet.

How can we "encourage" AOPA to do better?

I have had a bit of a softening on my stance against AOPA. It helped me because I actually asked questions of the people on the staff at AOPA vs going to web boards where nearly every keyboard warrior tears down every organization that doesn't do their bidding because they gave their $50/year...

    More economical airliners?

Sure, if you have that luxury to wait a day; that is rarely the case for me.

Thinking of upgrading from my 182

How much is your insurance on the 182? My Bonanza insurance is only $2600/year for $200k hull (I'm underinsured). How much are people paying for Mooney insurance?

Thinking of upgrading from my 182

Have you priced out the "extra insurance"? I have a 36 and I asked about how much more it was to insure the additional 2 seats. It was $0 additional per year. It's not as fast as the short bodies- I'll give you that. However it doesn't have any CG issues and a much larger useful load. I get...

Are you looking at selling and buying or buying in addition to the 182?

    More economical airliners?

I'm all for travelling via GA (I also prefer it) but we all have to be honest - there are times when GA just won't get it done. If there had been RVR 006 at your destination, real icing or imbedded thunderstorms all along the route, the Mooney would be at home or tucked in a hangar somewhere...
