Iphone/Ipad GPS in the Aluminum Tube

Same. iPad 2 3G. With the cell data off, the GPS works fine so long as I have a clear shot out the window. Middle seat or aisle, you're SOL. Even on the inside of the tray table in a window seat it doesn't seem to work all the time. But as long as it's close to the window, I've watched several...

    An observation, and a question.

4,700-ish. about 10 of those are rotor. .7 in a T-28. No P-51 time (ink or Merlin powered). But it's been four years since I flew the 1900, so I'm not even half the pilot I once was.

Is there a B767 EFIS Turn Rate Indication Symbol?

I'd doubt it. I've never seen a transport category a/c with one. It's not required for part 25, is what I've been told. They do have a slip/skid in the form of either a ball mounted on the bottom of the EFIS screen or the trapazoid below the sky-pointer arrow on the PFD.

    Questions about "company"

Whether you have any "specials" on the inbound (eg: wheelchairs, blind assist, unaccompanied minors, etc). Communicating delay codes, EDCTs, or requesting maintenance or a gate agent at the plane. Asking for catering, fuel, or a bug wash. Asking for permission/numbers for a divert. Any number of...

    Questions about "company"

"Calling company" can be done in any number of ways. All of the stations that the airlines go into have their own AIRINC freq. Kind of like a unicom for airline ops. So you can call them VHF on that. Some planes have SELCAL. You can call them on that. Some have ACARS. You can email them on that...

Cutting a path for the Shuttle

No. Well, in Houston they had to move some stuff, but it was mostly on the grounds of the space center. For the one in NY, they landed it at JFK, hauled it across the airport to a waiting barge, then towed it through the waterways to the carrier. Only hitting one bridge on the way. For...

    Sick-out at American?

Individual pilots can (and should) ALWAYS call out if they're legitimately sick. And the company shouldn't do a thing about it. The reason that the union was so quick to point out that this is not a sanctioned/organized action is that would be considered illegal work action (bordering on a...

    Sick-out at American?

The company can fire them. But that would be cutting their nose to spite their face. The union would almost definitely fight them and then they'd be short staffed for a lot longer than the length of a sick call. Because they're canceling flights for sick calls. Fire everyone that calls in...

Could an attacking 50-foot woman actually exist?

Is it a 50 foot treadmill or a normal sized one? Cause I don't think the Mythbusters are needed to figure out what she would do to a regular treadmill.

Could an attacking 50-foot woman actually exist?

Yes they did! I was just watching a documentary about them. They were very assiduous. See:

Airplane Hot Rods: the fastest of their class

I think it's the fastest per decibel (or perhaps loudest per knot?), but not close to all around fastest.

    9/11 ATC and Military recordings

One of many told to "just get there" that day. I know it's been discussed on here before, but it's worth repeating - one of the best books I've read on the subject: http://cleartheskies.com/contents.html It follows the airline and military pilots in the skies that day, as well as the...

    Beechcraft Starship (Video)

I am supremely jealous that you got to watch that in person! I watched the entire live feed of all their flights from the computers in the university library - I would have LOVED to have been there myself!

    Beechcraft Starship (Video)

These are, as I understand it, the privately owned parts birds for one of the few still-flying models. Growing up in Wichita (my high school is about two blocks from the Beech factory airport) these airplanes have always been something special to me. I still see RS out in ASE a lot! EDIT...

    Devious Direct-To Pilot

I had a controller actually suggest that one (crystal clear VFR) day. Me: Any chance we can get direct such-and-such? Him:Can't do direct because of the next guys airspace, but did you say you need about a ### heading (essentially direct) for weather? I can work that.

CO Pilots - Any weekend plans?

Work. I need to get the hell out of this evil FL-AL-GA triangle I seem to be stuck in this week. Shwacked two birds in less than 24 hours down here.

    AirVenture 2012 Photo Thread

Great pictures, Rob! I'm very jealous of your Cub ride to get there. And the helicopter ride, too, that had to have been incredible!
