    Dale Jr. Crash

If you're not used to doing a 70 mile flight in a jet, things happen quick. If it's common, like at my air carrier, its no big deal.

    Dale Jr. Crash

Depends on the situation. Dry runway, you're correct that they aren't used in the distance calculation.

Airline pilots. What is a typical day of work like?

I guess if you're in the big leagues it probably hurt. Those of us down in the minor's it seems to help a bunch. This job is bad enough doing back to back to back 10 hour overnights, I can't imagine less than that.

    Broken A/C - upgrades!

I've got a geothermal unit in my house. Bought the place last year, previous owner had just replaced the geo-unit about 8 months prior to selling. Thankfully the manufacture warranty transferred, as I had the compressor short to ground this winter. When it runs, its great, but when it wasn't...

    Cessna 150 Rotax Conversion

For what it's worth, I flew an aircraft with twin Rotax 912's that cruised at 25-35 knots, for 8-10 hours at a time, and never once had overheating problems...

Engine failure in a twin - how soon do you land?

Why? In a 3+ engine aircraft, an engine failure isn't an emergency item checklist, it's an abnormal item checklist. They had the fuel to continue, no reason not to.

Well it was a good (almost) 10 years.

And that’s what I get for trolling as I wake up.

    Thinking of a career change to 121 / 135 flying.. thoughts/experiences?

What's your goal in 121? Would you be happy spending 10 years at a regional, or do you need to get to a major? With the right regional, you'd be a captain in 3 years or so of being there and could have reasonable seniority in the left seat.

    Running tanks dry in cruise

That's just your opinion. Obviously the FAA has zero problems with it, so why do you?

    Running tanks dry in cruise

At the 135 carrier I flew a piston twin for, our SOP was to run a tank dry.

BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

Because that data could be used in a punitive way against pilots, in terms of fuel burn, not getting short cuts, not getting places on time for deviations that HQ monday morning QB's. Even FOQA data (which is downloaded from the FDR), is tightly controlled. The company is only able to see very...

BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

Most WiFi on airliners is still ground based, for what it's worth.

BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

You've got to be the most insensitive person on this forum, to insinuate that it's a suicide mission. They haven't even found the CVR/FDR and captain moron over here is declaring it a pilot suicide. If that's the case, why wait to crash into a shallow bay, versus the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

    UAL Attendant aparently goes nuts

On what airplane? One with more than one FA, sure, I wouldn't expect a pax on the intercom. But a 50 seater with a single FA. If they go down in the back, there's nothing we can do, other than eventually get to the point in the procedure where we make a PA and ask a passenger to answer the phone.

Things I’ve learned as a captain after a month

Sure, but when company SOP is single engine taxi, you better have at least a decent reason not to do it... I've never left the gate at this airline where I had 200 pounds between ramp and min fuel
