    Someone busting Milwaukee TFR...

We already have TFRs around every single sporting event. Perhaps the more relevant question is should there be a 20nm TFR around POTUS at all times?

    Someone busting Milwaukee TFR...

Air Force 2 arrived on Cape over the weekend. A friend of mine departed out of 5B6 for a day trip to Block Island. 5B6 is immediately south of the Joint Base here where AF2 landed. The TFR popped up less than 2 hours prior to her arrival and after my friend had departed. 5B6 is under the...

What’s your normal radio reception range?

Certainly not which is why I had it on in the first place, but on APRS I prefer to use extra low power and no "hops" but my HT's default configuration is 5w with 2 hops. At 4500 feet, there's a BUNCH of ground stations that your first transmit out reaches and hops from.

    Out of my comfort zone

Mike Goulian has an Upset Prevention & Recovery course very near to my location. This just encouraged me to make the call. Thank you for sharing your experience, Lance. Best of luck tomorrow!

What’s your normal radio reception range?

I accidentally forgot to change my APRS HT settings one day. My 5w signal was bouncing all the way up to Canada. About 30 minutes into my flight I realized what I'd done and turned it off. I didn't get any FCC or OO notices so...oops.

What’s your normal radio reception range?

Radio hobbyist here... Are we talking 7000-8000' above the ground or altitude? Makes a big difference. A back-of-the-envelope calculation for radio line of sight for the situation you've described is about 100 nautical miles assuming 7000' above the transmitting antenna. VHF radio regardless...

    Recommendations on ADS-b receiver

To the point of external antennas, the GDL50 has an external antenna connection on it as well. Confirmed that it does work with ForeFlight. I'm not a user of FF so not sure how hard/easy the interface is.

    Recommendations on ADS-b receiver

I use a Garmin GDL50 and I love it. Long battery life, easy connect to my Garmin Pilot app (on two devices simultaneously) and I'm fairly certain it works on ForeFlight as well. It uses bluetooth as opposed to the WiFi connection which is important to me. Three different variations to choose...

    Skyhawk Down Cape Cod

Yeah, sadly we have few good options for emergency landing on the Cape. Cranberry bogs, golf courses, and beaches is about it. Everything else is trees, power lines, solar panels and packed parking lots. Just spoke with one of the A&Ps there...plane is back home in pieces and investigating...

    Skyhawk Down Cape Cod

One of the planes I trained in. She's a 1963 model...great little plane. No injuries, just a big spectacle. https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/small-plane-makes-emergency-landing-on-cape-cod-beach/3401224/

Seaplane collides with small boat in Vancouver

There is no provision in COLREGS (Rules of the Road) for a water "runway" as has been mentioned. Maybe Canada has a domestic policy for it? I don't know. I can't find any marking on any nautical chart that shows a special use area so my answer is simply "I don't know."

Seaplane collides with small boat in Vancouver

The text of Rule 3: (a) The word vessel includes every description of water craft, including nondisplacement craft, WIG craft and seaplanes, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. (b) The term power-driven vessel means any vessel propelled by machinery. (c) The...

Seaplane collides with small boat in Vancouver

INTERNATIONAL Rules of the Road...not Coast Guard rules of the Road. It just so happens that in the US the Coast Guard publishes the rules. It is International Law. As such.... Rule 18(e) of the International Rules of the Road states: "A seaplane on the water shall, in general, keep well...

    Flying by the numbers ?

At the risk of hijacking the thread, how does one go about searching for a place to do spin training?

Did not know about ADHD restrictions when I got my medical. What do I do?

Look at what just popped up in my LinkedIn feed… https://www.linkedin.com/posts/faa_pilot-minute-can-i-get-my-medical-approved-activity-7202716198256398336-TN2c?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios

    Flying by the numbers ?

Just gonna leave this right here.... I wish my first instructor was more like this. My heartrate still goes up when practicing stalls and I still don't like doing them without a CFI. I have another thread somewhere about that story.

Did not know about ADHD restrictions when I got my medical. What do I do?

That doesn't make much sense given the possibility of off-label use. Adderall has been used for obesity and fatigue, for example. But nobody has ever accused FAA medical branch of being reasonable.

    Forgetting to switch tanks

Almost all of my flying is in high-wing Cessnas. On cross country trips I usually don't opt for the "Both" option for a couple reasons. One being to start that habit early of checking the gauges. Oftentimes I have a crosswind which favors one gravity feed over another. I've not yet found a...
