uAvionix announces its certified AV-30 magnetometer preorder

For those interested, uAvionix stated today that the HSI and autopilot integration for the AV-30 is still being worked. Getting AVmag certified has been the bigger issue, but the others have not been dropped. For those with the skyBeacon, and wanting ADS-b in they are getting skySensor TSOd for...

Anyone have an Aspen E5, Trutrak Vizion (Aerocruze 100) and and Avidyne?

I’m happy to ask them tomorrow, they have a group at the AEA show, but the rep today did say low.

Anyone have an Aspen E5, Trutrak Vizion (Aerocruze 100) and and Avidyne?

Aspen training today discussed much as Damon stated. I’d have your aspen updated to 2.12, and your Arinc429 ports set to low speed. That should help with your issues.

    GRR and vicinity GA scene?

I don't live up there any more, but my sister is in Zeeland and Ottawa Executive, Z98, I know has a club and rental situation with a handful of types. Lavion Aero.

    Cessna Cluster Gauge Issue

Depends on the JPI, not all are certified as primary so the OEM stuff must be kept.

what are you hearing re: Garmin lead times now (Aug 1)?

FWIW, it's all of them. Dynon quoted me 5 months for a 10" Skyveiw HDX display when building a quote for a customer. Even in the E/AB world, there's a significant delay. GRT told me ~15 weeks for their 10" Horizon display.

Battery replacement as private pilot questions..

RG-35AXC are sealed, don't need to be serviced with electrolyte prior to use.

Seneca IV Vacuum removal with deice boots

Just went through that with a Chieftain, PA31. Dual Aspens on the left, single on the right, only kept vacuum pumps for the boots. We wound up tying the hoses together, and putting a cap on the suction line with a hole in it as a restriction. Piper support was no help, as the avionics are not...

    KI214 and GNS430W

May not be as nice as an integral light on a CDI, but is an option in the 400W series install manual. GPS and VLOC source output wires are separate outputs from P4001. To keep a functioning unit, adding an external indicator works. Some install options can also be used to ID autopilot source.

    KI214 and GNS430W

Or you can put in an external annunciator for LOC/GPS.

Mechanic shortage worse than pilot shortage

Agree about 121/135. All the time in the facebook A&P group folks are asking about pay scales at the majors, don't see too many talking up the GA world. Biggest reason I can throw wrenches at GA is I get a retirement from the Navy.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

Late to get back, but you are correct Mark. Aspen is green for all nav modes. I might have been thinking of the active leg on the map, rather than the HSI information. I apologize if I caused any confusion.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

I'll have to dig in the book tomorrow at work. It's possible (probable?) that I'm mixing thoughts on the E5 and the Max. I will get back on with what I find then.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

I don't disagree with the apples/oranges comparison. From my perspective as installer, the Aspen is nice because it's only 1 connector plus pitot and static. If mounted in a "clean" area the RSM will start with no heading adjust either. Not saying it's better or worse than G5's, just another...

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

Yes an Aspen E5 will allow vacuum system removal. We quote 6 hours at our shop to fully remove the system and plumbing. Wiring it to your system would likely be 20-25 hours. A little more difficult than under the panel of a Cessna, but not terrible. I was 50 hours to install an E5, ACU to an...

Two CDI from single nav source?

You are correct, I misremembered. The turn coordinator must be kept.

Two CDI from single nav source?

Aspen requires a backup attitude for IFR installations. I'd loose a CDI and put an AV-30 in.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

Hours depends on what you're interacting with it. Just into the panel with a GPS will be much shorter than if you are adding an ACU and EA100 for a legacy autopilot interface. Only 1 connector on an Aspen, so that does go pretty quick, about 20 hours if no autopilot in a C182 is what Aspen...

2 place intercom to 4 place?

They could, but I wouldn't. You leave the wires too exposed for potential damage. If your A&P is on your field, remove the interior yourself. Your pic looks like a Cessna, seats, carpet, floor inspection plates and side panels aren't that difficult, but add time. If you do it, then the shop...
