How long did you wait: PPL to IR?

I waited around 8-10 years. It's not that I didn't want to get started, I couldn't afford it. It's expensive but worthwhile.

    Maintenance nightmares

Not to pick nits but electricity is interchangeable and that's why it's so easily distributed. We do it all the time mostly thanks to Nikola Tesla - transformers to change AC voltages and rectifiers/inverters to switch between AC and DC.

    Maintenance nightmares

I went through this when I was trying to find an alternate source for the seals in the old Dunlap brakes on my DHC-1. Automotive seals and airplane brake seals are not made of the same material. The automotive seals are probably an EPDM and the seals for 5606 are typically Buna. They...

The sliding canopy looks great too. Is the slider a factory option? Dave

    Your Airplane and Pictures???

I'm hoping to get up tomorrow afternoon/evening. Speaking of Aerodromes, have you made it down to Massey Aerodrome in Maryland? It's a nice grass strip with a museum. They have a fly-in every December. I finally made it to the last one...

    Your Airplane and Pictures???

They did a fair amount of grading a few years ago so the ruts are gone. The grass has been longer than usual this year. Would the long grass affect your wheel pants?

    Add-on PTT switches

I don't know if this helps but there are two ways to wire the PTT. I'm sorry but I can't remember the details. I did have to change the wiring on the PTT for it work in my bonanza with my Garmin audio panel. The folks at David Clark sent me the diagram so I could make the change.

    Tail wheel training

You've got a chance to fly the plane for the cost of fuel and helping with the restorations? That sounds like a fantastic opportunity to me particularly if you like working on old airplanes. You'll probably get bored after a few hours of take offs and landings. Can you get some...

    KOSH 2013 Update

For my only other visit, 2008, I rented a room in a house that was between the North 40 and the museum. That was excellent :D. I hung out with my camping buddies in the North 40 at night and had a 10 minute walk to my air-conditioned room with a TV and bathroom. These dorm rooms, for...

    Android AWOL from OSH

I use a Galaxy Note 2 phone and I run Garmin Pilot on it. I'm only using it for VFR. The Note 2 is a large phone with a big screen but it still fits in my pocket. If I've got my phone with me, I've got a great navigation tool on a screen that's large enough to be easy to use. I had an...

    KOSH 2013 Update

I got here on Wednesday around lunch time. There were very few planes coming in when we arrived. There were a lot of low clouds in the area all morning. I guess that kept some folks away. We flew out in my buddies Bonanza in about 4.5 hours from Philly. We went over the lakes. We're...

How do I sign up for a workshop at Osh? From what I can see on the EAA website, there aren't any advance registrations. Thanks Dave

    Voltage Regulator Fun

Jay, With a solid state regulator, there shouldn't be a next time for a long time. I replaced my old carbon pile regulator with a solid state Zeftronics regulator recently. Nice product. The folks at Zeftronics, no comment. Dave

    Chevy Volt

I bought a 2007 Camry Hybrid new about 5 years ago. I drove it for the first 2.5 years before giving it to my kids to use. I drive about 30,000 miles per year so it made a lot of sense for me. It's got about 100,000 miles on it now. I read about all the horror stories when I bought...

    Hammerheads

Thanks for the write up. I appreciate it. I'm amazed at your description of adding rudder, aileron, etc. at different points in the maneuver. I'm still at the point where things are going by a bit too fast but I'm working on it and I think I'm improving. My old instructor finally got...
