    Bad Pilot Habits

forgetting to set the altimeter calling "tower" for a taxi clearance when I mean "ground control" and just about everything else in everyone else's lists ,except pre-flights and fuel checks I always do them ,I will even have a quick check over the AC if I've only left it for a few hours!

    Unconventional Landings

    Unconventional Landings

I reckon this is right on the money ,,,,except I still get the OH S#!T moments even after the 51 landings,,,, I've got a mate reckons he has to pluck the cushions from his butt crack after 300 hours in his C185, he asked a higher time Cessna pilot about it and was told the day you think your...

    Am I full of crap?

not to sure of the way it's done in the USA ,but learning to trim an aircraft was part of EVERY flight from EOC through to circuits (my son has just started at 14 and learning to trim the AC was part of his first lesson) even getting a gentle prod while doing navs, your instructor is not doing...

    Unconventional Landings

The article didn't mention my technique,,,three to four bounces ,a drunken weave back to the hangar and change of undies ,,,,:) There are heaps of variables to what landing technique you use, three pointers are a bit slower over the fence so you can use a lot less runway , wheelers are needed...

Thanks mate, when you say "nuke" I'm thinking nuclear? I'm going for my aircraft welding ticket currently so i guess the skills would be similar,,I guess things would have to get tight to go from yachts to welding ? although $70ph is pretty good dosh ,about half that here!

So are you an Aussie? Does the welder/metalworker make a good quid in the states, have vague plans of spending some time there (or perhaps Canada) one day And yeh ,I haven't heard too much good about the cobra AC, "it took about three landings to crash it " ,I guess it's good to have goals! lol

    RV-9A vs CH-650

is the CH 650 the one that uses the wing skin as an aileron hinge,,if it is I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole,,I'm building an RV6 and reckon the Vans aeroplanes are top of the list,,although I could be biased

Thanks for the replies, I'll have to have a look around on the net and get organized . I am flying out of Lilydale and Coldstream at the moment but we're down to about 400 metres (of about 1200) because of the rain at YLIL , I'm going to be hangaring my Skyfox (aussie kitfox copy) at YLIL unless...

    How many hours?

I've got about 280, and loved every one of them, even the aeroplanes that were less than inspiring,,I have to say the most memorable were in taildraggers and doing aero's ,I hope I never get "over " my logbook, it really is a bit of a chronicle of my love affair (16R) with aircraft and when I...

    An Aussie for Oshkosh

Hi all, I'm starting to give a bit of thought to Oshkosh next year, my Dad lives in Chicago and I would be starting out at his location, just after some local info and advice, would it be easy to rent a plane in the Chicago area for the few days at Oshkosh? Are there many taildraggers online and...
