    Czech Mate - Sherman Smoot

I’ve visited the winery he co-owned and really enjoyed it. So sad to see this.

    Engine run on

This happened to me once in training in a 172M. Pulled the mixture to idle cutoff and it slowed, sputtered, then chugged back to life… repeat for 20 seconds. Stared confused at my instructor and was about to just hit the mags when it quit. I think I remember it kicking backwards too. The shop...

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

10, if you listen back. But it seems like he closes that distance before the 152 even does a full circuit in the pattern, since he was hauling into the pattern at mach 1..

    N. Las Vegas Mid-air

Per liveatc, Piper was cleared to land 30L. Appears the flight track is consistent with an approach to 30R.

“single engine Cessna” down at Show Low (SOW)

News has a report of the pilot's name. FAA database shows student pilot cert from 10/2020. Flightaware tracks from ~10 days ago look consistent with checkride prep/checkride maneuvers. So sad, RIP.

Van's RV-10 down in Marin Headlands - two dead

That's a summer pattern with high pressure and dry air above. The day of the accident was a more winter or spring like day, with coastal clouds at ground level, but broken cloud layers from 1000-3000 as well.

    ToC in NavLog

I always used 12 GPH in the climb, then cruise number from the POH for the navlogs when I was doing them. I found that to be pretty accurate dipping the tanks after the flight.

Can we talk about the 172?

Interesting. Every 172 i've flown, once trim is set in the downwind I leave the trim as is for the whole pattern. My Cherokee requires trim changes on each leg to get the airspeed right..

    Play in Cherokee stabilator

My Cherokee has zero up/down/side play and i'd never fly in one that did. As for actual measurements, no clue.

First time dealing with drafts and turbulence near a small ridge in C152

Check the weather models and NWS weather/hazards map to look at weather stations on the ridge tops. I flew STS to LVK (livermore) this morning and fully expected bumps on the leeward side of Mt Diablo due to 25 mph offshore winds at the summit.. and that's exactly what I got. It happens a lot...

    1st passenger

Newly minted PPL here, took my first passenger. No big deal right? But the first time flying with a passenger who is a long time pilot and not your instructor? That was different, for me at least.. knowing they’re secretly judging my every mistake :D
