A well equipped Tiger should get you a TON of AvGas with your $100K budget.

Your mission and mine are identical. I've been very happy with my Tiger for the past three years.

I bought a plane! But I cannot fly it (yet).

I bought a Tiger before I started training for my ticket. Insurance said the same thing about my CFI. When I pressed them for specifics, they asked that he do a full pattern once. He did it at the purchase, I jumped in and we ferried it home. I want an AA1 also at some point. Congrats!

Any advice for new pilot flying with family?

KGIF for cheap fuel, nice on field diner and Enterprise on site. Kept me out of Bravo too.

    Disappointed in Aircraft Spruce

I have great experiences with Aircraft Spruce. I had parts shipped several times when I first bought my plane and they always had it right and on time. I think some thought has to be given that we are not a large enough market to do everything cheap. The example of paying someone to find your...

Short(ish) field in a Grumman Yankee or Traveler

A stock Traveler should be fine. I do the same in my Tiger with three in the plane and close to full fuel. I do what the POH says as far as flaps (none). You are correct that many do add 1/3 flaps. I very unscientifically tried both ways (on pavement) and saw zero difference in takeoff length.

Essential passenger briefing...Stay in the plane

I don’t crop dust or fly reporters. Never even considered exiting my plane with the prop spinning.

Declared Emergency today - first flight with family

Great job PIC. You got everyone home alive. Sure you may learn a bunch from it but for now, superb job.

Any advice for new pilot flying with family?

I guess I did everything wrong. We had a good weather day the day after I got my ticket. We flew from North of Atlanta to Orlando for a Disney trip. I had heard of the “short trips first” but I know my family; they were more likely to fall in love with the utility and speed to destinations more...

    Would you do it?

I bought with that same risk (23 hours total after an OH 30 months earlier) after a solid PPI. I had some for gotchas but the plane was solid. You may get a weird oil report after a year of flying it harder. Those numbers reduce as you keep flying more; at least mine did).

Buying my first plane, what should I consider

I’m the most debt averse person around but this sounds like a perfect time to take advantage of low rates. $25K won’t get you potentially a great quality IFR setup. $10K down sure can. It sounds like you have a two year need. Get a little better equipped IFR bird and get your hours (I have a...

    Cross-Country Fun vs. Practice

Also, you may be obsessing over little crap. I was over reacting to a simple float or a bump. Relax, fly a correct approach and look down the runway. I actually found it better to do full stop landings. I would get off the active, clean up (flaps, not my shorts) and think through the entire...

    Cross-Country Fun vs. Practice

I agree that you should land at every airport you can. I sat around doing T&Gs but only Improved after stretching myself with mountainous patterns and grass and different sight pictures. The pattern makes your landing and I’ve found the different setups improved my landings far more than staying...

Good places to stop with kids

@CJones I am brand new here but I was told it went Raceway to Tara to Henry and now have applied for Speedway... FWIW, a lot still call it Tara on the CTAF. Pretty sleepy field. I assume the EXACT opposite on race weekends....

Good places to stop with kids

I can’t help with out west but here are a few experiences worth noting in the Southeast: As you mentioned KGMU, though I thought higher of the cafe than the OP did. My new home airport KHMP is soon to be called Speedway as it is based adjacent to Atlanta Motor Speedway. With right traffic for...

Love that plane. Wanted an AA1 all the way until we had a son. Got a Tiger therefore. Get some type training and have a blast. Great choice and congrats!

Atlanta Area peeps - gimme ur suggestions

Flew out over Lake Jackson this morning and then did my first real grass landing at Peach State. The earlier pireps mentioned this place. Barnstormers Grill was excellent, buffet brunch on Sundays; menu all other times. Lots of fun things to do- museum, glider pulls, experimental, pilots, the...
