Started building CH750 STOL rudder kit

My wife got me the Zenith CH750 STOL rudder starter kit for Christmas. Last night I decided to get started on it. I haven’t built my work table yet - honestly, I’m not a woodworker (or even much of a handyman) and that is one of the more challenging aspects of starting this project! I did...

    Building a zenith 750

I may do that, I will need some kind of builder’s log anyway. I got to go see one in person this morning, was offered a ride but didn’t quite have time. The visibility really is amazing. There is almost zero cargo space though. The builder told me he flies with the slats off on a regular basis...

    Building a zenith 750

My starter rudder kit is coming next week for a 750 STOL. I am a fairly new pilot and have never been much of a mechanic, but started watching some videos of construction and decided to give it a shot. I like the Zenith because I like the plane, and the pop-rivet construction is a lot less...

    fatal crash in San Diego

I would avoid a head on collision if possible.

What not to do with TKS...

For me FL240 at night in icing conditions would be like trying to fly to the moon.

CFI does impossible turn at San Carlos

Great work handling the emergency. The student did jump off the controls. He must be fairly new.

    I can do that.

Truckee aviators - is FIKI a must?

This has been a great thread. I'm in the same hours range as the OP and am considering future planes and missions. My 2c is that he should get a nice piston turbo plane, and an instrument rating, but should only fly the family when the weather is nice. That's basically my plan, except here on...

    10 airplanes to avoid

My 65 PA-28-140 has push pull controls and hand brake only. It’s a great airplane. High useful load - two grown men, light bags and full fuel. Four hour plus endurance. Not very fast but that’s a lot of trainers. Very very forgiving landing gear. It has some quirks but I’d recommend it to any...

    O-320 Cruise Rpms

I have been doing a lot more cross country flying lately and want to get some feedback on my power management. Basically I fly at 2600-2700 (redline). I level off and then pull back the throttle for about a 100-rpm drop, maybe an inch from full open. Then I use the mixture for best power or best...

    Today's Adventure

Today I left KCUB and headed to 01SC, which is a private strip in York, SC, that has a farm store. The weather leaving KCUB was beautiful. Wheels up at 9:30, smooth as glass. The cruise was going really well. It was a little hazy with a high cirrus overcast, but nice weather. I got flight...

    Motorcycle question

Some of this depends on how tall you are, your inseam, and what kind of riding you plan to do. But I would say rent the Triumph for a one-day screwing-around trip - i.e., no interstate and no dirt roads. It's cool, it has a low seat for flat-footing the bike, and, the power is adequate but won't...

    Fresh PPL, now what...

I have done a couple longer flights, and we have a breakfast club here in SC that meets every weekend or sometimes every other weekend at a different airport. I have been doing some evening flights and some night flights, which I really enjoy, and of course sightseeing with friends. Also I...

I didn't see that one when I looked at the NTSB database.

The Icon A5 is starting to attract buyers

Respectfully, what is scary about a Searey? There are no reports of structural failure, and no one has ever died in a Searey. The A5 is 4 knots faster and costs $120,000 more from the factory.

    Glider Ad on Rating

I started with a glider certificate and "added on" ASEL. Soaring is extremely fun, "the sport of kings," though obviously very weather-dependent and hard to do by yourself.

    Cherokee 140 LED NAV lights?

Addendum - I splurged on the Whelen Parmetheus Plus landing light because I've been flying a lot at night. Big, big, big difference. Worth every penny and then some. Fully lit up with LED red and green nav lights, beacon (older Whelen strobe), incandescent white tail nav light, and now the LED...

    Corrosion On Propeller Leading Edge

The whole thing probably needs to be redone. The paint is gone from the leading edge and the back side is pretty rough. A previous owner polished the front face and who knows whether that was done properly. I'll send it out to be overhauled at annual. I don't think I did enough to change it...
