Seriously rusty pilot looking to get back into it

Welcome back! I went over 20 years. It comes back quick, could land smoothly on my second flight. On my third flight I took the radios and felt a bit overwhelmed at first but that went away quickly. With GPS, HSI, glass cockpits, flight computers and electronic flight bags, it's kind of trip to...

Is a four year degree still mandatory

Part 135: No degree needed, charter operations are in desperate need of pilots since most leave as soon as they get to ATP minimums and/or their contract ends. You could actually make a decent living as an experienced 135 Captain. Regional: No, but it certainly helps. All Regionals are not...

Twin training - "The Drill" after losing one

If you fly with the ball centered without bank with one engine inop, you will actually be in a sideslip that adds drag, increases VMC and decreases performance so you are taught to bank up to 5 degree into the good engine and use rudder to eliminate the sideslip.

The 7 Deadly Sins of Radio Communications

I was thinking the same thing. Just because no one else is operating at the airport doesn't mean an inbound isn't monitoring the frequency just like it says to do in #7.

Piper Arrow flood on the market

I was taught that as well however I won't pull back until established on crosswind or even a little longer if I am doing a cross country and have a ways to climb. I always felt the rule should be 25-25 once you can turn back and land engine out. 500 agl is not a safety first rule and I'm...

    World Chess Championship in London...

I played tournament chess for years and find this championship extremely boring. Computers chess programs have gotten these guys preparation to a level that makes winning very difficult. The faster tie break time controls should make things more interesting on Wednesday - assuming today is a draw.

    112-hour pilot attempting circumnavigation... !

Same here, mother was to blame also, was defending the decision even after the accident. Meanwhile if they did make it, the CFI was obviously PIC in all ways that are important. As for this glory seeker, if he does circumnavigate with an experienced pilot in the right seat, he deserves zero...
