737 Max cleared to fly again

So we can agree that the Boeing Max as designed without MCAS failed to meet the stability requirements of CFR14 25.173

737 Max cleared to fly again

Really, so MCAS serves no real purpose in stabilizing the aircraft? Then what does it do; why does it exist? I suggest you read about the development of the MAX and why the system was required by the FAA to get it's Airworthiness Certificate. In summary, Boeing decided to hammer a square peg...

737 Max cleared to fly again

Looks like a lot more software bandaids to cover up a poor design. I wonder with all those changes if it will not increase the likelihood of control problems with the aircraft that the MCAS was designed to deal with but could now be rendered inoperative? Something tells me this story isn't over...

    FAA Knowledge Test

I have used Gleim for 3 knowledge tests that resulted in 90+ scoring for each exam. They offer a lot study and practice exams. You can even use the same testing format as the FAA for the end of course exam.

    jet dream ... be honest

I think the only way to realistically pull something like this off is with multiple partners that are looking for that jet experience. When you start dividing the cost by multiples of 4 or more, the numbers become more manageable and by buying a jet that requires 2 crew members you can both log...

President Trump Came to See Me!

Why is this in Flight Following?? Sure doesn't have anything to do with flying airplanes.

Spruce Goose flew 72 years ago today

Favorite line from the movie the Aviator: "You've gotta make a choice, you want to be bankrupted by the big plane or by the big airline?"

New spin video from Microsoft's new flight simulator!

We just went over steep spirals for my CFI training and the rotation in that video looks a bit more extreme. I have spin training a week today so I'll contrast and compare then.

Should I take my knowledge test first before going to a flight school?

Prefer and recommend doing the written early and I have always studied for understanding, not just to get the test done. This gives you a base of knowledge to begin your training with and allows you to focus more on flying. In addition, the subjects your instructor talks about in the lessons...

    Fatal crash near Philly

Wow, that kind of hits home for me. I flew up to Syracuse last month for a college visit with one of my daughters and wife. Unexpectedly, over half the flight was in actual including doing the lowest ceiling ILS of my career. Thankfully I was just coming off getting my ME and did an instrument...

A real "Hold my beer" NTSB report...

"Two empty beer cans were found in the front left floorboard area near the rudder pedals. A rodent's nest was found inside the left wing near an area that had been impact damaged. A significant amount of cobwebs were observed in the engine compartment........ A large mud dauber nest was found on...

A reminder for why you want WAAS GPS if you fly IFR

Just this past Friday I flew from Wyoming Valley, PA to Syracuse, NY and back and got cleared Direct both ways. I have no idea if the lack of VORs had anything to do with it but I was pretty happy.

Third or fourth practical test failure

It is possible that the person was receiving sub standard instruction. Let's face it, there is a wide range of instruction quality out there and the CFI population includes a lot of low time, inexperienced instructors. I guess the FAA can start by looking at the results of other students for...

    Is complex time important?

Flying complex/high performance aircraft might be beneficial in training. People do wash out at Regionals all the time. I'd be curious to see the stats on that.

Cessna 310 hits a house in Riverside, CA

83 year old pilot, geez, maybe at some point it's time hang it up, or at least only fly solo in good VFR conditions.

Mid air collision reported at T31

See and avoid was part of the problem for sure. The Arrow pilot was at the proper altitude (TPA) for a direct entry into the pattern from a midfield crosswind. That being said, if he was listening to the radio, he would of known about the conflicting traffic on downwind and should have been 500...
