MD-87 in flames in Houston field, all occupants apparently evacuated

They may have had a hint something was up prior to V1 when the auto throttles wouldn't engage. Takeoff mode was another item on the missed checklist. They corrected that while accelerating but unfortunately it didn't tip them off to the bigger problem. Terrible accident but a good review for...

    Flying overweight

Yea, it's hard to believe people would be arguing to take off in an unsafe condition but apparently that's what happened. Ultimately it was up to the pilot to make the proper decision and unfortunately based on his track record wasn't the type to do it. They should have just made the 300lb...

    Flying overweight

Interesting thread considering we just passed the 20th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Aaliyah and 8 others. Pilot was a real piece of work. Investigation determined that when the aircraft (CESSNA 402) attempted to depart, it was over its maximum takeoff weight by 700 pounds (320 kg)...

Bought a plane, told to form an LLC. Your input welcome.

Thanks for telling me what I already know. Seriously are you even a lawyer because you are trying way too hard here. Did you miss the part where I said I have formed numerous LLCs for clients in the real estate area?? I have practiced law for over 20 years and essentially answered my own...

Bought a plane, told to form an LLC. Your input welcome.

Kristin, you mentioned that single member LLCs do not offer personal liability protection for plane ownership and operation. I am a non litigator that has formed many LLCs over my career, typically for real estate holdings, so you have sparked my interest. My assumption is that the plaintiff...

    R-44 down in PA

Second helicopter fatal for Wyoming County since 2013. I fly near that airspace a lot, its rural with minimal ground lighting and some significant changes in terrain elevation so you must be careful at lower altitudes, especially at night. The one from 2013 was also an evening flight and took 5...

Flew a C177R Cardinal Yesterday for the First Time

Our FBO just purchased a 177 RG to replace their Arrow III that failed inspection for the wing spar AD. Looks like a step up in all areas so I am pretty excited to get checked out. Nice ramp appeal as well, sharp looking plane.

The U.S. Air Force Just Admitted The F-35 Stealth Fighter Has Failed

That may have been the reasoning although considering the costs, I think I'd take 5 F-16s over 1 F-35.

The U.S. Air Force Just Admitted The F-35 Stealth Fighter Has Failed

I seem to recall an article a few years back about how the F35 was losing to F16s in dogfighting. I thought that was a pretty obvious red flag at the time but the military brass just blew it off for some reason.

    Plane down in Western Washington

Reminds me of the Air Safety Video of the doctor that flew right past Dover AFB critically low on fuel because he didn't think it was an option.

What is the current state of Commercial aviation?

Reduced international traffic is allowing the airlines to experiment with using optimal routes across the ocean instead of the traditional airways. Could lead to some permanent changes and save the industry some money.

    Escape underwater oxygen bottle argument

Most disturbing accident report I ever read involved plane sinking through ice. Suffice it to say scuba tanks would not of helped.

Famous (and infamous) people.. who are pilots

I can understand why some didn't like John Denver's music, as a young man I didn't, too soft. However as I have gotten older, learned to appreciate his music and have a few of his songs on my iPod. Don't think it was mentioned but he wrote the song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" made famous by Peter...
