Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

I sincerely appreciate everyone's input. I can't believe how much advice has been posted in such a short time. I should probably try to update my intent to prevent people from spending more time with the initial post. I found a local flying club I plan to joing which has a small but diverse...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

Having the wife in the back is definitley something that has crossed my mind, but not until recently the desire to have all 3 in the back with just myself up front. Drives the point home more for a 6/Lance. You're absolutely right about the 182 panel! That was one of my biggest surprises when...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

6's seem to be starting right in my budget and working into the mid 100s. I've never seen an A36 in decent shape for less than the high 100s, but 182s seems to be right in the sweet spot. Another point of this post is if it gets settled out to either a 6/Lance or a 210/206 and they are all well...

All valid points. I hope to be one of the 1 that actually flies it. The more we look at it, the more attractive a flying club is in the short term. There is one locally that has a 6 and a Dakota in the fleet, which is definitely appealing. The highlight of being ready to buy on condition and...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

I've never thought of it this way. Thanks for that! Maybe I do need to be shopping for something with 2-300 left TBO The two-axis autopilot may be overkill, but the convenience and safety of having one would just put my mind at ease hauling around the family. I should probably update my 90%...

Yeah, honestly it is looking more and more like a 6 place is the way to go, whether that be a 206, 210, or Six/Lance variant. I'd love a twin, but selling the wife on the doubled costs will likely be difficult. I've only ever ridden in a B55 and a Twin Comanche, both were fantastic airplanes...

Which do you fly? Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

You're not wrong! It seems like any mid-time engined single with decent avionics/interior/paint is a 90k+ price tag lately. I should say anything with a 6 cylinder or retractable gear, but still that's quite the variety to have that high of a price on. Anything I find less than around 80k has...

Also I forgot mention, this really piqued my curiosity now. I was under the impression airplane ownership was a more buy once cry once sort of endeavor. I'll definitely have to check the numbers on storing vs selling and the buying another. If it's just the cost of an annual and hangar plus...

All makes sense. Thanks for explaining it! My day job involves retractable gear so I'd say its about as likely in a Lance as in my primary aircraft. That sounds like a really nice capability. Valid point. And I'm sure the wife will tire quickly of having to pack lightly. Didn't know that...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

Yeah, just one more point for the PA32. With the purpose of this being a family hauler, a Mooney is probably best saved for when we're empty nesters 20 years from now. Not looking for true 6 seats at all. Looking for true 4 seats, which may be a 4 or 6 place plane. Not sure you could even...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

PA46 is a beautiful plane. I've had the privledge of riding once in a Malibu and it was incredible. Oddly enough my biggest gripe was getting in the front seat. It is the only cabin-class plane I've flown and it was so cramped. This plane will either be my second or third from last if I have my...

Edited to add the Comanche 260 In your opinion, does this even hold true for 2 adults and 2 kids? Granted, they grow up quick. But my expectation for the plane is to keep it around until we retire, or at least till the halfway point. At that time we can make a more informed decision as to what...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

To start off, I fully intend on this being a year or two long process in order to manage my expectations, and if the right one comes along that checks all the boxes, I can jump on it. Mission: Family of 3 (4 by the time we purchase), I'm 6'4 230, wife is 5'5 and 130, kids are 3 and the other...

    Right plane for my mission?

Density was around 70 feet. Nowhere near gross. Full tanks, 2 pax and 30lbs of luggage in the second row

    How common are near misses?..

The RALT just lags a bit. we'll hand fly it down to 500AGL most days. You must have been LOW!

    Right plane for my mission?

I actually was looking at the 6 and Lance for a bit but was underwhelmed from what I saw online compared to the comanche. Plus insurance is higher for more seats, correct? I'm working on getting flights in all of these already! :D

    Right plane for my mission?

I'm blessed with a wife that not only enjoys flying, but aspires to eventually get her PPL.

    Right plane for my mission?

Apologies if I offended you, I was just not wildly impressed with that plane. It was a rental and I'm not familiar with its history but anywhere from 5k to 8k it wold just barely indicate 111kts at 2500. Cruise for any plane I own isn't going to be WOT, I would like to keep my engine to the TBO...

    Right plane for my mission?

I completely agree, I have no interest in flying 6 hours nonstop either. But 170 out of a Mooney makes it a 3hr trip, faster to altitude means less time in the climb from base and the refuel.
