I don't recall normally getting a bravo clearance into john Wayne. The only place to park there is the FBOS.

Cheapest way to fly a "plane."

I had an o-235 powered long ez for a while. It went about 150 knots on 5 gph. Cheapest plane I ever had to both buy and operate. The engine is in the back however. Variezes are even cheaper.

C172 from Los Angeles to Monterey KMRY - Any advice?

The advantages to the SR22 are many. It would take only half the time and the autopilot can fly you in air conditioned comfort the whole way while you gaze at the beautiful California coast line. In the event of an engine failure you will float gingerly down to the sea while considering what...

Buying an airplane without seeing it??

Purchased a pitts without seeing it. Had the ferry pilot do a complete annual on it then fly it from Kansas to Califronia in the winter. Ferry pilot was an A&P IA. For payment I just mailed the guy a check. I did see pictures and logbooks prior. Worked out great no regrets.

    Transitioning through the LAX area

Wise decision. I was out flying today from Hawthorne to Camarillo and back. Moderate turbulence and wind sheer. I would not have wanted to fly through banning today.

    Glider Add-On

Not really! You would have to get all of the commercial glide time and private pilot glider to qualify for the check-ride. I think it's like 100 flights total. Would be much easier to get the airplane commercial and then glider add on commercial. Here is an easy to read version of the...

    Starter airplanes for under $30,000

You guys! Anyone can do anything to an experimental plane. They don't need to be a pilot or a mechanic. Anyone can make a major alteration and sign it off. Yes it may have to go back to phase 1 but no licenses are required to do anything except of course the yearly conditional inspection...

    Starter airplanes for under $30,000

I think a long ez is a great starter airplane! You can easily get for around 25k and you can do your own maintenance .

    M20J or C-177B

I have experience with both. I remember the 177 to be really disappoint in high density altitude situations. I remember one time climbing out of las vegas at gross weight and boy did it struggle to get much past 5000 feet. It was 120something out that day! I say go with the mooney!

    Trip to MAMMOTH LAKES, CA.

Good plan to go to spook intersection. I am flying up tomorrow so you should see my plane on the ramp! climbing up to 11500 ensures gliding distance to both placerville and tvl in a cirrus. You should start descending earlier than you think into TVL you only need to cross echo summit by like...

    Pirep Apache 160

got about 50 hours in the 160hp apache. It's a dog on one engine service ceiling is maybe 4000. You can run the thing at 19 inches squared and burn like 12 gph. Should cruise around 110 knots at those settings. Who cares you are building time! The only tricky thing was the hydraulic pump...
