    Emergency landing, Lake Shore Drive

He found a part of the airplane that is hinged to the wing, that you can push in an down position, then use it as a handle to push the aircraft forward. Now, what's wrong with that?

    Popped my Chicago Lakefront Cherry

Awesome experience, isn't it? Next time, try the Eisenhower transition. You turn westbound from the Navy Pier and basically you follow I-290 to Schaumburg. You get to fly pretty close to the Sears Tower (or whatever it is called now) and at the same height as its 66th floor.

    Emergency landing, Lake Shore Drive

Here's an update. Three of the four southbound lanes on Lake Shore Drive are open. The airplane has been moved to the median, using two Fire Department colour coordinated spine boards as planks to ramp the airplane up the curb. (Photo below, courtesy of the CFD Media Office). According to WGN...

That's our Chicago :). I want to know who the chick with the 9" [heels] was, supervising the whole thing, then leaving in an unmarked CPD SUV!

    Emergency landing, Lake Shore Drive

Just happened. Ercoupe 415-D, tail # N99055, out of OSH, apparently lost power over Chicago. Landed on the southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive, near 31st St Harbour. No injuries. (Photo below, courtesy of CFD). https://twitter.com/CFDMedia/status/1022942753817325569 [ Update per ABC Ch. 7...

    VFR Flight Following?

Thanks for the good feedback. My concern is primarily about brevity. This is Chicago Approach, they are usually busy, and I am always amazed and grateful that a controller has room and time to accommodate me. When I get near the edge of the mode-C veil here, the Approach controller will advise...

    VFR Flight Following?

Quick question on phraseology. I fly out of 06C west of O'Hare Intl, and often I take advantage of the excellent radar coverage, to request flight following. My call to Chicago Approach is straightforward: Chicago Approach, Piper 4-3-3-5-K, over Bartlet, requesting flight following. ATC comes...

How/where to suction-mount iPad in Archer II

I may have to try the yoke at some point. There are a few reasons I prefer a suction mount: 1 - convenience: I rent Archer IIs and Skyhawks from the school where I finished my PPL. And I have this notion in my head that it's easier, faster, and less intrusive to the plane to use a suction mount...

    Can’t reach FSS in air

This has been my experience as well (all 30 post-checkride hours). A couple of weeks ago I flew 06C-KIKK-06C, and just for practice experience, I filed a flight plan for the first leg. Once I cleared the pattern at 06C, I contacted IKK radio over the DPA VOR, and opened my flight plan. Very...

How/where to suction-mount iPad in Archer II

Hello all, I need some help -- in the form of best practice suggestions -- as to where/how to suction-mount an iPad mini in an Archer II. I'd like to have the iPad at or near eye-level, so I am not looking at yoke mounts. At least not yet. Ideally, I want the suction mount on the left side of...

    KDPA, quick transient parking fees

I am working on it; it will make things so much easier.

    KDPA, quick transient parking fees

I always try to give some business to a nice FBO; the "problem" with KPDA, is that I am based at 06C, just 8 miles to the northeast, and unless I dump fuel on the way there, there is very little that I can buy. In general, I agree with your point.

    KDPA, quick transient parking fees

Just a quick followup on this. I called the FBO today, asked about fees for a quick shutdown and passenger pickup at the itinerant ramp, and was told that "there is no fee for your Archer". As @Kelvin suggested, they were very helpful on the phone.

    KDPA, quick transient parking fees

Hello, Does any one know if I could park at KDPA long enough to pick a passenger and, later, drop him off? I estimate about 15 min. of ramp time each way, in an Archer II. I will not be purchasing fuel. Thanks.
