    More Piper Comanche questions!

The Porsche was the wife’s old car. Engine troubles made it a parts car.

Return trip from OSH/Scare the Wife

I had the engine quit when I was changing tanks with the wife in the plane. She keeps a close eye on the gauges and the time now. We change tanks earlier now.

    More Piper Comanche questions!

I have a older Deb, 1960, with the 2, 25 gal mains, and 2, 10 gal aux tanks. I have 63 or 64 gal usable. I considered tip tanks, and they would be nice, but not worth the extra cost for me. After 3 or 4 hours I’m ready for a break. The newer ones have two 40 gal tanks with I suppose 74 useful.

    More Piper Comanche questions!

I own a debonair with the 225 hp model. I also live in Florida, I’m based at PGD. I can haul 4 200lbs people and 43 gal of gas. Granted I can’t haul any bagage, but ive made trips to the keys with close to those weights. I’d love to own a 260hp Deb as I give up about 10 knots and probably a...

    Bo vs. Arrow

Ive owned my Debonair now for 6 yrs and 600 hours. Since I’ve owned it the only Beech part I’ve bought is the rudder spar upgrade . During the AD check a crack was found where the rudder attaches. But it looked like it was from a bad prior repair. The kit that also does away with the AD...

    Bo vs. Arrow

The arrow we looked at just seemed smaller inside, and I believe it was more of a 135-140 knot airplane. Even my Mogas burning 225 hp Deb cruises at 150 knots.

    Bo vs. Arrow

We went with the Debonair. My wife picked it out of coarse. The panel had been somewhat updated. The radios were still on the left, but a normal 6 pack layout.

    IFR Training Starts Next Weekend!

I've also started working on my rating in a /A plane. I can't see spending the money on a dme. My plane is worth a little more, it's a 1960 Debonair, but even a 430w with a cdi is around 10k installed. And then there is the data base to keep current. I'll keep the portables for situational...

How many single engine airplanes can carry 4 people? Under 100K

My Debonair can haul 4 200lbs people and 44 gal of fuel. And I've done it several times in one form or another. And I've had no complaints from the backseat passengers. But these were all just day trips and generally 11/2 hour or less legs.

    Debonair

I saw your post from another thread and though I would put in my 2 cents here. When I was looking to buy, 5 years ago, I was looking at F model Mooneys, and 58 and up V tails. At the time the Debonairs were running a little out of my price range for the condition I wanted. I came across a...

I was also looking at Mooneys at the time. I just found the Debonair first.

When to buy your own plane?

No way I would rent. I bought my Debonair when I was still a student pilot, but was close to finishing. But the choices I had to rent were not that great, and keeping them for a week or two would have been a problem. I'm retired and my wife and I like to take the plane on vacations and...

low compression in a TCM cylinder

I also talked with a well known engine rebuilder and he also said to not worry about it as long as the exhaust valve looked good and it wasn't burning an excessive amount of oil.

low compression in a TCM cylinder

I've had one that has read from 44-47 over the last 3 annuals, and two different shops. It's leaking past the rings. One shop noted that it meet the SB requirements. The other just listed each cylinder compression along with the MO. I've put 300 hours on since the first test. It burns...

Top 5 airplanes with useful load for low time pilots!

Trained in a 172, bought a beech Debonair before the checkride. It's been 5 years now and very happy. Useful load of 1060 and cruise around 150 knots.
