Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I can’t smell a difference, and I’ve never had anyone mention it. It is a bit of a pain to fill up some 5 gal cans, but currently paying $2.75 for 90 octane vs $4.10 for 100ll Is still worth it. And I don’t have to start the plane, taxi to the fuel farm and gas up,then another start and taxi...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

My cost over the last 7 years are around $120 to $150 dollars per hour. This includes $300 per month hangar, it does not include any reserves or big upgrades. I fly around 75-100 hrs per year. I don’t know what a 182 runs. I keep track, just don’t tell my wife.

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I had a boo boo a couple of years ago. Hit my elevator on the corner of my t hangar. It was sent to Biggs and reskined in aluminum. My cost was $50, insurance picked up the rest and there was no change in my premiums.

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I bought my Debonair in 2012. I had 40 hrs of time in a 172, i was still a student pilot. Insurance required me to get my ppl, complex, and 25 hrs of duel before taking passengers. It cost $1800 for $60,000 in coverage the first year. Today I pay $1130, I’m told it would be a little less if...

Low engine compressions - what would you do?

I’ve had one that was 47 hot in 2014, next year was 48, then it was down to 44. And that was after flying it hard for a hour and rechecking. 44 was the MO reading so he said I was good to go. The valves looked good and it was leaking past the rings. I bought a spare cylinder figuring it...

    MOGAS and the free overhaul

I stop at CTJ frequently on my trips north. It’s around a 3 hour flight and makes a good place to stop for a few minutes. I’m heading to Chicago next week and plan on eating lunch and filling up there.

    MOGAS and the free overhaul

The cost today for 90 octain Mogas is $3.00, 100ll is $4.10. It’s generally at least $1.00 cheaper for The ethanol free fuel. It definatly saves me a few dollars over time. I generally burn 11-12 gph.

    Departing with flaps.

I’ve done it while I was putting in my required hours for insurance. My instructor was with me and we landed and taxied back for takeoff. I forgot to put the flaps back up and it did react differently. The instructor just mentioned that I need to check things before takeoff next time. It...

    Critique my avionics choices.

I see you opted for the par- 200 instead of the 450. So just one nav and two coms. I have been wanting to upgrade my audio panel, but I also have old nav coms that are starting to give me problems. Did you go this route due to saving space in the panel? would a separate com only radio cost...

    Recommend a goal aircraft.

My Debonair could maybe do it. It depends what is included on the $120 per hour. How many hours are you going to fly per year. My hangar and insurance alone run around $4700. I’ve spent $1200 for owner assisted annuals, and $2400 for the shop to do it all. This year I’ll be adding ADSB for...

    Cost effective autopilot option?

I started with the basic Brittain wing leveler in my Debonair. I then added the accutrack that will follow a gps track. I picked it up used and sent it to Brittain for them to go thru it. Unfortunately they are currently in limbo, but hopefully will be back in business soon. That would...

    What would you change?

My panel could use an upgrade. More power of coarse. Sliding rear seats like the newer models have and reclining seats in the front. AC would be nice. I have a Beech Debonair. Im planning on upgrading the audio panel and maybe one radio this year. Everything else is probably not going to...

    Night VFR Poll

Not since I inadvertently flew into the clouds. I was concerned, the wife was terrified. Glad I at least had 20 hours of hood time before it happened.

    Panel Envy Sux

I’m hopeing to spring for a new audio panel. I’ll replace the radios when they no longer work. Other than that I can’t see spending the money.

    Etiquette on sharing flight expenses

Key West is something like a 5 hour drive, but like a hair over an hour to fly. And I do go down for lunch several times a year. If my wife and I are going and we invite another couple I’m happy if they buy lunch. If it’s me and some buddies, I tell them it cost me about $150 in gas and...

    Etiquette on sharing flight expenses

I usually expect the guest to pick up the lunch tab. Sometimes I’ll get a $20 or so and I appreciate it but never ask. I have a deal with my friend with a boat, I don’t expect him to chip in for plane rides, and he doesn’t expect me to pay for boat rides. It works for us.

    Best Plane for my Mission?

And go ahead and look at some Mooneys also, I was interested in them also, just found a nice Debonair first. Your kidding yourself if you don’t think speed will make a difference. You can always pull the throttle back and fly slow, but it sure is nice to Have the option to fly faster.
