Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

400lbs in the front two seats, 300lbs in the rear, 75 lbs in the baggage area. That and 44 gal of gas. Your going to have to stop for fuel at 3 hours, but with four your probably going to want to anyway. I’m usually taking another couple, so my weights are probably higher than a family with...

Starting purchase research, trouble narrowing choices

I have a Debonair. I can take four adults with no problems. I have close to 1100 lbs useful load. I do have to put the heavier passengers in the front and be careful on loading much into the baggage department. But two adults and two kids should be no problem.

    Today’s upgrade plan

I plan on leaving them on the left. I have a battery box that would be in the way on the right. I’m sure the cost would be more than I want to spend.

Sarasota to Key West, what route do you take?

If you cut across around Everglades city you shouldn’t be much more the 20 miles from shore at the most. And not for a very long time. And I’ve never crossed where I haven’t seen boats in the area. I’ll fly around 7500’,where I have around 15 miles of gliding distance. If your not...

Sarasota to Key West, what route do you take?

I’ve always been treated fine down there, but there are charges. And you will need a cab or Uber to get anywhere. And if you want to see the Hemingway house you need cash. I still find myself down there about 4 times a year. It’s going to cost you about $25-$30 to park for the day. Either...

    Today’s upgrade plan

I’d love to have a 650/255/375 with a new audio panel as well. But that’s over 20k and you still need a couple of indicators and installation. That’s just way out of my budget. I’ll look into a 650, if I go with the tailbeacon and a used indicator, I may be able to swing that. I can’t do...

Sarasota to Key West, what route do you take?

I go down frequently. I usually go a little past Everglades city, then direct. This keeps me out of the warning area. I’m usually on flight following, so they let me know if the warning areas are hot, but this route keeps me in sight of land a little longer, and doesn’t add much time. The...

    Today’s upgrade plan

I’m not going to do anything till the end of the year or first of next year. I can get around the adsb airspace for now if need be. I’m not hangared under it. My old narco is in the shop so I’ll see if the tech can fix it. It’s got a little noise in it and he is replacing something on one of...

    Today’s upgrade plan

There Is just to much new stuff to decide on, and of coarse I have to keep cost down as much as I can. I currently have a 70’s panel, narco and king. I’m currently a VFR pilot, but I’m going to attempt to get my instrument rating, I mean it this time. I started a few years ago after my ppl...

    Ifr logging time

I was paying $60, both in MO and FL. I was using my own plane. The guy in MO would nock off a little if you rented his, not sure about the guy in FL. Maybe I should shop around a little.

    Friends asking to go fly....

I own my plane, and I generally never ask. But i always get lunch or breakfast paid for, and most of my friends will chip in for gas. Those are just joy rides or lunch flights. Now if they want to go farther, say Key West, then I generally expect them to help with some of the cost.

How involved in flying is your spouse / Significant other?

Mine is a nervous flyer. No joyrides, she will go only if there is a destination involved. No flying at night and she prefers to see the ground. She would prefer to fly commercial. She also complains about the cost. And the fact that when we do go somewhere we have to watch the weather.

    Min Distance by plane?

Since I live 5 min from the airport and own my plane there is no min distance to fly. There just has to be a place to land. I will defiantly try to fly most trips if it involves more than two hours in the car.

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I looked at the Mooney’s before I bought my Debonair. I was looking at the F models as it was a little more comparable to the Bonanza. The c models were just a little tight for me, especially the rear seat. Would not work for me. But my kids were in their 20’s and big boys, as were most of my...

    ADS-B

I’m still waiting for the tailbeacon. I could stay out of most of the rule airspace except the gulf. I’d have a problem flying to the keys and staying under 3000’.

    Are you night current?

Nope, last time I flew at night I ended up in the clouds. And I’m a VFR pilot. Scared the wife and I was concerned. So no more flying at night for me.
