    To Commercial and beyond!

Lol. So true! Although in talking with the examiner he said he's actually only given so much leway so sometimes he still has to discontinue or disapprove even if he thinks the candidate is ok. The only thing that I left out is that we have mountains right between the 2 and 4,000 foot area that...

    To Commercial and beyond!

Thanks! It's really not too bad. The ground portion are things you need to know for your PPL, just a little bit deeper. And the air work is mainly getting a feel for the airplane, knowing when it's about to stall, staying coordinated, etc. Go for it! Opens up a couple doors for fun flying...

    To Commercial and beyond!

Yup. The examiner had tried given a checkride in that (the 50 kt aloft) before. Ended up having to stop the ride because the winds were too strong. The faa gives them some leeway when the conditions aren't the best, but not enough to compensate for winds like that.

    To Commercial and beyond!

Yes, that was part of our discussion. However a commercial pilot is not going to be down trying to do 8's on pylons with strong winds where he needs to vary altitude over 800 feet like the examiner had seen before. If I was flying somewhere that wouldn't have been a problem. But trying to do the...

Oh, forgot about the lazy 8's. The maneuver I had the most trouble with in practice. The first try I didn't quite get it slow enough at the 90° point so I ended up high and fast. Explained what happened, why, and how I would fix it. 3 more turns later and he called for the next maneuver.

So the ride was scheduled for yesterday. Of course the morning didn't go as planned so I didn't get a final check of the weather until about an hour before the examiner showed up. Surface winds were to be ok, but @3,000 they were over 55 kts! Plus low level windshear airmet around 2,000. The...

2 days before the checkride.... enter freak out mode. Had a flight with my instructor 2 days ago. Let's just say there was a definite grounds for a discontinuation. Went up yesterday and I was right back where I should be, we'll within pts standards. Hopefully my flight tomorrow will go well...

WTB Piper Arrow II or III

If you were close I was going to say I MIGHT have a share in an arrow II for sale. But NC is a good ways away from MD.

    aux in and Bluetooth headsets

Some headsets allow you to select what happens when the intercom is opened (someone talks either in the plane or on the radio). You can either mute the music, or let it all mix together.

Safety pilots will be your friend then! That's my only regret when I did my instrument rating. Would've saved a couple hundred bucks if I would've used my safety pilot for a few more hours.

If you don't do the instrument rating there will be a limitation put on your commercial license (no more than 50 nm away from base and prohibited from flying at night.) Plus all the requirements for the instrument are part of the commercial.

So we have the 2016 year in review thread. What all flying/aviation goals do you have for 2017? Mine are: Pass the Commercial, CFI, and CFII checkrides Get a job getting paid to fly (instructing or other) Maybe cross the 200 hour mark in the arrow? Met a guy at the airport yesterday who works...

    To Commercial and beyond!

CFI and CFII written tests were taken and passed today (one of them wasn't too pretty, but I still over studied for both lol). Now I'm really hitting the books hardcore for the FOI. I'll take it and the AGI (to become a gold seal instructor) towards the end of this coming week. I'm feeling...

Where to get spin training on the east coast?

Not having an aircraft that is licensed to spin makes it a little difficult

Where to get spin training on the east coast?

Looking for recommendations for places to get the required spin training for the CFI license. I want a place that isn't just some instructor giving the sign off. Looking anywhere from PA down to NC. Big area, I know, but I have family scattered about. If you have the cost estimates that'd be...
