    To Commercial and beyond!

FINALLY! Got the official handshake tonight. Glad to finally have the cfi under my belt. Now I can start focusing my efforts on getting the CFII and picking up some students :)

What arrow are you flying? Our Arrow (1974 200hp) maneuvering speed is 131 mph indicated at max gross. The maneuver is to be done at or below maneuvering speed, and at the top of maneuver right near stall speed (about 5 to 10 knots so right where a stall light would come on) I do it at 16 or...

    To Commercial and beyond!

I'll just keep kicking my can down the road until I get a nice day. Weather was looking perfect today (especially for a checkride) but a last minute change in the weather is brining some nasty weather in earlier today than expected. I would've been able to get the ride done, but I wouldn't have...

    To Commercial and beyond!

Geesh I cant seem to catch a break with this! Had one day scheduled, then had to cancel because of wind. Was supposed to happen this weekend but he had a booking error so he couldn't fit me in. Now we have snowmagedon knocking at our door. So it'll probably be at least till Thursday or Friday...

    Crosswind landings in gusty conditions

I just learned the saying 'every landing is just a failed go around'

    To Commercial and beyond!

Well we got the ground portion done on Saturday! But had to issue a discontinuance because of wind. Scheduled for the end of this week. I had hoped to go right into the II, but after this I realized I need some more time to study up on some weak areas. But for sure going to get it done within...

    To Commercial and beyond!

They told me to call a specific one, but I think that was more because of his location and he is willing to travel to me.

I was just following him on the controls for the take off and landing, but the landing was definitely a weird experience with a cross wind and a none-too-smooth runway (has a little bit of a bump at one part). Bill is a fantastic pilot though and made it seem like a walk in the park! I can't...

Headed to KANP for some spin training today (more details in my 'to Commercial and beyond' thread in the pilot training section) and my first taste of tail wheel in the all-mighty Pitts. A picture of the Bay on the way back home. Also got to take my grandfather up yesterday for a sightseeing...

    To Commercial and beyond!

Spin training complete! Had an amazing experience with Bill Finagin down at Lee airport (KANP). Started with some rudder walks and then We did about 4 or so spins. Including accelerated and flat spins. Would've loved to do some inverted spins and other things today but decided to call it quits...

    Paramotors / powered parachutes

After watching some of his videos it does look like fun! Would be awesome to just fly between some of our farms quick like that.

    FOI and CFI study materials

I'm getting ready for my cfi checkride the beginning of March (I have a thread on it). For the writtens I just used the free materials off the FAA's website. Just read over the foi and take a few practice test, you'll be fine. Yes, it's dry and some common sense but it's nothing earth shattering...

    What would you do?

Why don't you do all the PPL training in the 172, and then (assuming funds allow, and the 206 has a decent panel) jump into the 206, get the endorsement and start working on your instrument rating? I did my PPL in a 172, took a year break (still flew ~15 hrs though to stay familiar and...

Ok, I never thought of this before

Wouldn't have happened if you had an AOA indicator.... There thread fixed (read 'destroyed even further')

    To Commercial and beyond!

CHECKRIDE OFFICIALLY SCHEDULED! First weekend in March. I'm starting to freak out now, that way as the time gets closer I won't have as much to freak out about. There's a lot to this ride.... how did you all know if you were prepared enough?

Thanks to some unusually warm weather for February, I was able to log some actual instrument time! Had to be in state college for a seminar today, and the weather seemed like it was going to work out. Bases were all about 2,000 agl so we were only in the clouds for cruise. Only a 35 minute...

Ah the pressurized mooney! Can't think of the name but I ran into one (not literally) on a fuel stop. Really neat plane!

    To Commercial and beyond!

Been a while since I've updated. Since my checkride I've flown about 5 hours in the right seat where I'm doing the flying, and 5 hours as a safety pilot for some other pilots (great learning/teaching experience!). Passed the FOI written today. Called the fsdo over a week ago and they said to...

    Lycoming IO-360 (C1C) Overhaul cost

Thanks for the info! Stuff does add up pretty quick. So if we budget somewhere between 30,000 and 35,000 we should be pretty good then for an OH. More towards the lower end if some of the more recent things we've had done (prop OH, exhaust, etc.) Don't need redone. In all honesty this engine...
