A Cirrus Piston Twin - Practical?

The "T" in Yak-18T stands for "Touring". Can't believe someone thought about that beyond the Iron Curtain. The people hardly had any cars. Of course the real use was VIP transport, such as it was.

Why is the door on the passenger side?

One other thing: back then, the idea of boarding across didn't seem as ridiculous as it is now, and early Bonanzas even had a bench seat. Check out the lady driver at the end of this video boarding an automobile from the right:

    owner-assisted maintence?

You have to ask around. BTW, Dan MacDonald wrote a decent book on the topic: https://www.amazon.com/Assisted-Aircraft-Maintenance-Daniel-MacDonald/dp/0615488870/

Canadians have had a rough day today.

Oh. I thought we were taking about Ukrainian Boeing full of Canadians in Iran.

So who is flying these drones?

Sounds like an attractive option, but is it legal to use armed forces for police activity?

So who is flying these drones?

Or perhaps the drone's endurance far exceeds that of a helicopter. I can see A-10 being able to follow it. That thing can loiter for 8 hours. Unfortunately, it's single pilot.

    150 knots for $50k

IMHO the real issue with off-roading a Mooney is the lack of proper gear suspension and the real effect runway bumps are having on the fuel tanks. Also, the wheelbase is very short, so it tips and dives a lot, eating into the prop clearance that notionally would be sufficient. Finally, the...

    150 knots for $50k

Just to inject a little data in here, look at this flight yesterday, same route in two directions.

    150 knots for $50k

Yeah? Like what? I was in this position in 2014 and the only thing that could come anywhere near was a beater RV-4 with O-360. Fortunately for me, I'm 6'5" and I cannot fit into the -4. Trust me, I would not be flying this stupid Mooney if EAB 150k for 50k existed outside of Internet forums.

    150 knots for $50k

M20E making 150 knots? LOL An M20J can do that, but not E Well, okay. Truth to be told, my M20E can do 150... on 2700 rpms. If you want to fly like that, be my guest.

Any Carlson Sparrow Ultralight pilots out there?

Thanks for the ping, and you're correct. However, I sold it. Paying for a hangar was getting expensive.

We’re overdue for another automotive thread.

It's a lie as usual with DeMuro. And if someone calls him out on it, he'll say that it was a joke. Dozens of smaller channels have no trouble getting cars. Alex Dykes, for example, has 320k subs and pulls about 70k views give or take.

We’re overdue for another automotive thread.

Yuri and Jakub are okay. They didn't invent the formula of 2 guys in 1 car, but they polished it enough that everyone else does it now. And the review of Enstrom helicopter was lulz. That said, they still have their bad spots. The obsession with the looks, and things like the review of Evoque...

    150 knots for $150k

He's waffling back and forth on Mooney. I'm sharing a hangar with a Deb and my baggage door is way bigger, but it's higher off the ground. A club seating 36-series Bo will have gigantic entry port, but I'm not sure about that $150k barrier for it. At this point all signs point to some kind of...

Opinions on the Rans S6S Coyote?

Coyote II is phenomenal in winds, like you wouldn't believe. I know because I was once stuck with strong crosswinds at Mustang Island. While I was sitting in the FBO, waiting for the winds to die down, I saw an older gentleman take his friend around the pattern in an S-6ES with an nosewheel. It...

    150 knots for $150k

I was in the hangar yesterday and checked how high the lower edge of the baggage door is on my Mooney. It is definitely higher than the belt of my trousers and comes at around the level of the solar plexus. Frankly, I can imagine someone who's too short to load a dog crate in there. A petite...

    150 knots for $150k

I have an M20E and it's not a 4-place plane even for someone as short as OP. The useful load is not there. I only have 880 lbs. With 30 gallons of gas, it's only 175 lbs per person. Although with $150k to throw at this project, he does not need to limit himself to an M20E. But a J isn't going to...

    150 knots for $150k

RV-10 is the only answer for your budget, considering that you don't like Mooneys.

    OpenAirplane is no more

It's a big bummer in theory, but in practice I never even got around to getting my universal checkout. It was simpler to buy my own airplane (although significantly more expensive). I guess not enough people wanted to fly while on vacation. Or they didn't want to fly hard enough. I wanted, and...
