    New Diamond DA50

And yet the fairings for the gear look like a total afterthought on the DA-50 RG airframe. Even Beech did better with Sierra, where they resorted to folding the gear outboard.

Too late to cry about weight and complexity on a retract, don't you agree?

    New Diamond DA50

So many people harp upon the meaningless metric of "payload with full fuel" that apparently OEMs started to limit the tank size just to make that dumb number look better.

    New Diamond DA50

Conti was selling diesels for many years now. Just a few years ago their line-up consisted of 3 groups: 1. The 100-series. These were in-line, liquid cooled engines, derived from the Austro. It's basically the engine we're all familiar with in Diamond DA-42, which found a wide market with...

    New Diamond DA50

Perhaps it's time for Germans to consider folding wings. I saw a Stemme with folding wings. In fact it has to taxi with wings folded in most places.

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

This is almost too good to be true. I paid $48k for my M20E: about the same airplane in most respects, and it came with noticeable problems: dorsal scoop taped shut because the cable is broken, the Positive Control is INOP, stall warning INOP (I fixed it since). It was not yet 2020 compliant...

    us aircraft expo

I don't think I would ever buy a turboprop (too expensive for my net worth), or a new Mooney (too expensive for the value), but a new Waco sounds tempting. Heck I didn't realize they were still making those. Some of those expos had other semi-realistic options, like Icon A5. There used to be an...

    Gyroplane on the brain

One thing people need to keep in mind is that gyros demand significantly more power than comparable airplanes. Those that are flying under a 100 hp Rotax turn into single-seaters in New Mexico. I only knew one guy who was happy with a gyro there, and he had a Subaru 2.5L conversion with a...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

Our friend steingar, who posted in this thread, also lost flaps on his C this year. Apparently it was an issue with rubber gaskets in the master pump. But I'm not going to claim that his gaskets are more expensive than my electric motor when it goes out eventually, because obviously they can't...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

This was my experience too. I only bought a Mooney because it was cheap. But also, I was desperate for knots within the budget. So many people say that a small speed difference does not matter. My experience was that making 135 knots in Arrow versus 115 knots in Cherokee makes a very large...

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

I had no trouble with electric gear and flaps. In fact one of my annuals was $800 total (I opened and closed the airplane myself). The $20k annual that I'm finishing right now was caused by corrosion and engine case cracking. A corrosion can happen to Tiger too.

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

Getting wet is one thing, it's worse when one found mud somewhere near the edge of the apron and then steps on the seat with that foot while boarding. I suppose one solution is to fly to Class C airports or better only.

    Air-to-Air Carlson

If I knew it would be a problem, I could've added a white or silver tape for prop tips. The cruise speed of the prop is 2248 rpm (5800 rpm at the crank with 1:2.58 reduction).

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

132 knots is exactly what I get over NM, UT, CO, NV in M20E at 10 gph. I can go faster only when over the plains in TX, AR, NE. The fuel burn goes up though.

    Air-to-Air Carlson

David posted an update to FB, which reads verbatim: "I Need to get this clarified. Team Mini-max LLC Is a Separate company from Carlson Sparrow Aircraft, I am in partnership Scott & David we own the Carlson Sparrow Aircraft Company now" FWIW The plane in Jack's pictures is after the crash and...

    Paoli, Indiana runway extension

You do realize that the construction is almost completed, don't you?

    Paoli, Indiana runway extension

Pretty much what a local journalist thought too: "The runway extension would make Paoli’s airport unique by creating a 400-foot vegetated, mechanically stabilized earth wall that Dillard said would look like a pyramid in the woods. Lambert said it is already a buzzing topic in aviation circles."...

    Paoli, Indiana runway extension

Speaking of 'shops, here's the concept sketch from the environmental assessment report for the runway extension project. The NOTAM is "AD AP CLSD 2004252125-2008012359".

    Paoli, Indiana runway extension

Seen this picture on Facebook. U Liek? Well, I think the prevailing winds will be for landing on 20, and this is the approach end of 2, but still, try not to overrun that runway either.

Should Radios Be Required At Non-Towered Airports?

GA: Help! FAA is murdering me! Karen The Pilot: So polarized. Why cannot we find a moderate solution? Maybe he can only murder you on weekdays. Or, we can require him murder you very slowly, and publish plans to murder you for a public comment for 30 days.
