Hold short, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold ...

The only aircraft working the pattern was the jet that you see landing first in my video. It taxied back and was behind me while I was waiting for the last 4 landings -- it's all in the real-time video. Everyone else was flying in either to go to the diner or to a full-stop. I really thought...

Hold short, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold ...

Yesterday there was a welcome break in the weather and I flew from Schaumburg to KJVL to celebrate my first 100 hours as PIC after earning my PPL. After the celebratory coffee and apple-cinnamon donuts at Bessie's, I climbed in the airplane for the flight back. This is my departure. It was quite...

tough landing for this Piper Malibu ...

The runway is 1,762' at Courchevel (CVF/LFLJ), and if there was any ice on it, they are lucky they walked away from the accident. The airport is very similar to Tenzing–Hillary in Nepal: short runway and no room for go-around because of the surrounding terrain.

I think the tail number says it all: F- GUYZ

spotting traffic using the 'lean' method

Do you also duck with driving below an overpass? Or when driving into your own garage? If yes, nothing to worry about. If not, this can be very serious.

Non-standard departure from pattern radio calls

Introduction: We are all told to depart the pattern at a single-runway, non-towered airport either straight-out or via a 45 degrees left turn, above TPA (AIM 4-3-3). At my home airport (06C - Schaumburg), when departing runway 11, you cannot leave the pattern via a straight-out nor with a...

Phone # to call for a facility?

This may be a trivial question but I need some help. Where do I find the phone number to call a facility and get information about flying in their space? For example, I'd like to do a night landing at Chicago's Midway. KMDW is a very busy class-C airport. I'd like to call ahead and see if there...

Do parachutes prevents death when jumping from an aircraft?

Believe it or not, this is the topic of a study led by a Harvard medical school team that just published its results in the BMJ (formerly known, as the British Medical Journal). The paper, titled "Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma when jumping from aircraft: randomized controlled...

Advice: Flying through O’Hare Bravo VFR

Indeed. Now we are flying at the level of the 66th floor of Sears instead of the 67th :) And although the final product is actually good (ie, the public space, concert venue, and lakefront park that was created where Meigs once stood), the process of the airport's demise remains a stain in the...

Advice: Flying through O’Hare Bravo VFR

As others have mentioned, clearance through the ORD Bravo airspace is a rare privilege. In the past six months, it happened twice for me (once I asked and was given; once it was offered without me asking; both VFR; both at the fringe of the Bravo sector I was in and never near the actual...

    KMSN - breakfast - 08 DEC

That's a great idea (heated hangar, Italian food) and a good suggestion (local group notifications). The functionality for such notices is inherently available in the forum, i.e., when we join POA we can declare our location or home airfield. It's a matter of ... ahem ... simple geolocation...

Failed nose gear emergency landing at KPWK

Update from local news stations: "Believe it or not, it was actually Seferian's [pilot/owner] second plane crash. Six years ago he crash landed in Lansing, MI, and walked away from that crash as well. While his wife Barb said she wishes he would stop flying, she knew what happened was a...
