AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

Once again, the city of Frederick made the decision years to ago to tear down the South hangars. AOPA had nothing to do with that. The master plan for years has also called for more hangars at the north end of the airport. And, as previously noted by others, this was in our backyard, so why not...

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

Pricing not set yet, but given the current newer hangars are $420, I'm certain the new larger ones will be more in that $500 a month range, which is in sync with others in the market. With building costs in the region, unfortunately it's not possible to build hangars in that $250 a month range...

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

There is a significant waiting list for hangars at Frederick--and has been for years--and AOPA is committed only to building phase one, which is 30 T hangars and 6 box hangars. Given the demand and current waiting list, there is little risk to capital, especially in the first phase. The other...

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

AOPA is borrowing the funds, using local banks when possible to educate them about the risks/rewards of such a project at an airport, given most banks have no experience in financing hangars built with private funds on leased public property at an airport.

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

As noted in previous post: "The project is an effort to educate lending institutions and municipalities about the opportunities for public-private partnerships to help solve the hangar shortage across the country. Municipalities seldom have capital to invest in hangars. This project will explore...

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

As required by law, the RFP was widely advertised and written about several times in the local newspaper. Because of a lack of response, the RFP period was extended a couple of times. In the end only two entities submitted proposals. AOPA was one, and it was the AOPA proposal that the city...

AOPA sold their aviation insurance business.

There is no AOPA EFB. AOPA had a brief relationship with the company that sells the FlyQ EFB, but that ended five or six years ago. And now AOPA is out of the aviation insurance business. There is no AOPA FBO and no plans for one. As for hangars, after an open bidding process, the city of...

    Advice on flying into KIND

And almost always on ramps built with federal tax dollars. Seems like the folks who paid for the place ought to be able to stop by now and then and at least know what the price will be for showing up without jumping through a lot of hoops.

    Advice on flying into KIND

Good advice; email is even better so you have it in writing. But isn’t it sad that you have to CALL in this day and age and can’t find the information online? Why is it that the FBO industry opposes transparency so much? What other transaction do you face where you have to call to find out what...

    Is AOPA asleep again?

The WORLD is changing to ADS-B as its primary surveillance system. Little chance to stop that one. But only in the US do pilots get something for their investment--traffic and weather information, a change AOPA insisted on. We also advocated that we should all be able to get rid of transponders...

    Is AOPA asleep again?

@Tantalum in your original post you concluded that AOPA is not effective in making a difference on major initiatives and doing nothing to grow the pilot population: If our government, or the airliners, or someone else, wanted to make GA flying so difficult that it would effectively die, well...

    Is AOPA asleep again?

Thanks, @SkyDog58 for the invitation. To @iflyatiger , AOPA does have a media relations staff member. We receive multiple calls a week from reporters seeking information about GA, usually safety related questions because of an accident in their area or related to local airports. We hook them up...

AOPA or Mayo Clinic Basic med course?

Get the doctor sign off first. Then do the course; at the end of the course you enter info about the doctor and submit it to FAA and print the certificate of completion that you put in your logbook. None of your health info is sent to the FAA.
