    VIP TFR question

Thanks all. Very helpful feedback. Will endeavor NOT to hear “you’ve been intercepted by an armed air defense fighter”!

    VIP TFR question

Thanks, this is perfect. Had searched the forum but missed this! Appreciate it.

    VIP TFR question

Feel silly asking - but previously, I’ve simply avoided VIP TFR’s as they are usually pretty short - and it was never worth the hassle. Next week, the DNC will have the ZAU airspace pretty tied up and I will likely need to fly through the outer rings to the East (beyond the TFR) and return...

    nervous

Yeah - brain fart as I was typing. It was 260@12G24. Rwy 18. All(ish) crosswind. Reality is - I could have left out the crosswind component from the story - because it didn’t even get that far in my consideration. For me, the 12G24 alone was enough for me to say ‘today’s not the day’.

    nervous

I suspect you’ll find you get more comfortable with some things (solo, light turbulence) and potentially more nervous about other things as you experience them/understand them more (wind shear, imperfections of weather forecasts on long CC, the fun of substantial wind gusts on short final). I...

    Shocked and speechless

I don’t know if I’m shocked or speechless - but several of the responses got me laughing pretty hard. So far, GeorgeC has the winner with ‘both sides’. I needed it today with a broken plane (minor) on a mulit-day day cc trip.

    Sentry Plus Vs Stratus 3

is your thinking that it provides better AHRS while on the panel because it won’t move? I am not familiar with the Stratus, but have used the “standard” Sentry, which gives ADSB, AHRS, and CO2. The suction cup mount is very solid - would have very little concern with it moving. I always mounted...

Questions regarding sport pilots licenses and MOSAIC

Just one person’s opinion - but… If this is something you truly want, start taking lessons. Do it now. Life isn’t getting any longer, and there is no way to know if, when, or in what form there will be a change to the regs. I would suggest training in an LSA to the PPL requirements (which...

    ForeFlight versions

Have found basic plus is all I need. Tried out many of the other EFB’s. Did not find anything that I thought was on par for weather planning. I still like to use a sectional to begin my cc planning. Especially flying to a new area. I find that my nav is better that way. Helps me assemble a...

Oshkosh: Mosaic for Private and Sport Pilots session on Wed

Yes, that’s right. I forgot about the “while turning” part. In the end - I doubt it really makes a difference to anyone. I just think it’s one of those areas where the rules overlap just enough to be a bit silly.

Oshkosh: Mosaic for Private and Sport Pilots session on Wed

No - just that 10k is an IFR cruising altitude (which a Sport Pilot should not be flying as they can not fly IMC) unless they were flying over an area with an elevation of more than 7001 ft in which case cruising altitude would not apply.

Oshkosh: Mosaic for Private and Sport Pilots session on Wed

Not to worry - I posted a link to ACS standards a few weeks ago that was, if I remember correctly, 15 years old. I swear it was dated 2024!

Oshkosh: Mosaic for Private and Sport Pilots session on Wed

14 CFR § 61.315 (c) (11) limits a Sport Pilot, or someone exercising as a Sport Pilot, to 10k (or 2k AGL). 14 CFR § 61.315 (c) (12) &(13) limits to VFR 14 CFR §91.159 stipulates VFR cruising altitudes at ALT+500. So, unless the 10k (or above) is less than 3k AGL, 9500 is the actual max...

Oshkosh: Mosaic for Private and Sport Pilots session on Wed

Which always struck me as odd. Since a Sport Pilot cannot fly IMC, they should not be at 10k anyway (except <3 AGL). So why not appropriate VFR altitude limit of either 9.5 or 10.5?

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Same show as Wed, or did they change it up? Thought really hard about coming back…but couldn’t talk myself into a positive bs/benefit ratio. So… watched the video I took Wed while sitting in front of the fire pit.

I’ve just seen discussions about the usual suspects. C 150, 172, some 182. P Cherokee. Just saw this - Have not watched all yet. https://www.eaa.org/videos/6358896759112 I’m just looking for an update on constant speed prop and if it stays in….

Had this on my agenda to attend. Couldn’t pull myself away from watching the overhead entertainments. Anyone attend and were there any meaningful takeaways? Thanks
